Hi
As title suggests. What do you think will be the greatest upsides and downsides for those long term people doing this gig in turkey if the country is accepted into the EU ?

What about the 'profession' itself ?

Helpless Americans like myself would be excluded.

Students may develop expectations of a quality education.

Or the level of English would increase to a point where they don't need many TEFLers anymore...

Salaries and standard of living might drop. but lets be honest by the time this happens we will be in retirement.

Who is paying for the retirement?

Most TEFLers I suspect will have to go back to their home countries and throw themselves on the state.

i think that the EU language standards will be applied more fully. I suppose that relates to the quality education noted above. I too have wondered what would have to North Americans then. Those that are already here would probably be grandfathered and -mothered in. However, there are lots of NAs working in Europe, so that would probably continue.

I'm with Molly here. I know nothing of the rights or wrongs of English Time but, as a user of Dave's Esl, I find 31 to be disruptive, boring, repetitive, and non-conducive to free exchange of ideas, which - GASP! - might not include anything to do with ET. I hate the fact that I am commenting on this. By commenting, I am perpetuating it.

31 is a loser, nothing more nothing less. He has nothing intelligent to say or contribute to this forum and his opinions are meaningless. There is no substance to what he says, and that's partially due to his lack of consideration for others. Other than the fact that he claims to have an M.A. which I think in his case it does not stand for Masters degree but rather
Master Antagonizer. When I was five years old I liked to antagonize people to see how they would react to certain things. 31 still does it.

Hey fellow Teachers... lets not resort to name calling.. maybe the names are correct and true..but not necessary.. Maybe sometimes it is best to just ignore those amongst us that want to antagonize.. or be disruptive.. Now back to the topic - I too have wondered about what would happen if Turkey were allowed to join the EU? I actually hope the EU falls apart because it is a bunch of whiners that don't know how to work as a group but want to be individual and at the same time take advantage of group benefits.. We all know what the EU is and what it stands for..and why it was created.. I don't think their goal has been met yet.. maybe if they get their act together ..and in a few centuries..they might be effective.. Laughing
