Hey, it's a slow day where I am, but it's still comforting to put these things down in print...

HAPPY

- currently on holiday and doing nuttin' except lounging around, playing with my young son, trying to learn Russian
- The parks here in Bishkek: cool and green with lots of shade; great place to lie on the grass and contemplate your navel
- A tasty Kyrgyz/Uyrgur dish called Gooroo Lagman: fried noodles, vegetables and beef. Simple but delicious.
- Hawaiian shirts - an unfairly maligned fashion item.
- The Archos PMA430: a video and MP3 player, photo viewer, ebook reader, games device. The ultimate travelling companion (though expensive)
- The album 'Youth and Manhood' by the Kings of Leon.
- The Russian beer 'Siberska Korona' (particularly the new Golden version)

ANNOYING

- the friggin' heat here in Kyrgyzstan and the distinct lack of airconditioning or fans anywhere.
- My neighbour's ongoing renovations that involve hammering stuff until about two o'clock in the morning. Does this guy ever sleep?
- A friend of mine who insists on shortening the names of cities. He frequently goes to The 'Dam and is planning to spend some time in The 'Bul. I am on the verge of throttling him.
- The iminent start of the new football season in England and the fact that my beloved Southampton will be out of the Premier League for the first time in nearly thirty years.
- My continuing inability to complete my Masters degree

The realization that I am probably teaching my last year due to advancing age is very annoying. Now I know what a professional football or basketball etc. player feels like when forced to quit the game.

My mind is young but my body is dying, piece by piece. This is also scaring me a little and maybe making me far too chatty. Sorry.

Unhappy.. the weather is holding.. lots of green tomatoes and no ripe ones plants are bending at the knees with extra weight.

My mind is younger than my body too but keeps pushing it to do things it doesn't want to happy about that. The lazy gene needs anneye kept on it.

My downstairs neighbour, a recently moved-in woman that I've said hello to perhaps three or four times, knocked on my door at 7:30 this morning. I had just gotten out of bed so I was a bit groggy as I opened the door.

She was standing there holding her baby. She handed me a note. In poorly written English it said that her husband was in jail (for what, I don't know) and that she was begging me for 3000 pesos (about $300 US) so that she could bail him out.

When I told her that that was a lot of money and I didn't have it, she then asked me for 1000 pesos. I told her that I was a poor teacher and that even a thousand pesos is a lot of money for me. She started crying and walked away.

That's what's annoying me this morning.

Happy

Talking to my girlfriend on MSN messenger and seeing her on the webcam everyday.
That QPR beat the might of Iran at Loftus Rd 3-0 the other night.
Watching the majestic Metallica S&M concert DVD over and over again.
Reading the excellent travel writer Tim Moore's book 'The Grand tour'.
Knowing that great bars and fantastic intl cuisine are only a BTS stop away.
Watching the delectable Egyptian pop star Roubi on video..she's got it all!

Annoyed

People abusing religion and mucking up other people's lives.
That only 8000 people bought a copy of Micheal(I didn't touch that kid) Jacksons latest CD last week.
Pirate DVD films that stop working in the final 10 mins of the film!
The guy in the flat next door who's been knocking nails into the walls everyday for the last 2 weeks.
Paper tissues that smell of perfume.

There I was browsing Saintsforever and then I pootle over here; and what do I find? Another depressed Saints fan.

Happy 'cos I've got friends round soon for roast free range chicken and I suspect rather too much Shiraz.

No nickname sadly. Too depressed to even browse Saints websites. But when I come back to England in September I'll definitely try to see a couple of games (I imagine tickets are gonna be a lot easier to come by now). Just can't imagine they're gonna bounce right back up tho'. It's going to be a tough few years.

-Annoying my cats
-My girlfriend coming over to live in 2 weeks time

-The ongoing humilation of the Saints- clive woodward and denny wise'll do ya proud ha ha
-The fact we're going to spank the Aussies in the next 4 Tests

Annoyed:

-The plummeting pound v the dollar

-The long and winding process of getting residency and setting up in business in Argentina
-It's winter
-People telling me i can't do things

HAPPY -
Doing Home repairs until 2 in the morning
The slight but steady rise of the dollar
Selling pirate DVD's without the last 10 minutes
Czech Budvar commercials making fun of British Expats. HILARIOUS!

Just kidding.

Here's my serious list:
Happy -
Stopped drinking cold turkey. Don't know if I'll continue as a social drinker or not but the obligatory 2-4 beers to "wind down" on weekends is out.
Other transformative experiences I don't feel like discussing publicly but kinda like being "born again" without all that messy religious nonsense. Is it possible to be a born again agnostic?

Sad, sad, sad ...
Gonna have to leave some intimate but unhealthy relationships behind.

Happy - good Thai food, good friends and a chilled day!

Annoying - rain, rain, rain! Oh and wailing cats that enjoyed being very vocal outside ALL night last night - very weary today Smile

Hey Merlin.....

was it you who sold me 'Amores Perros' missing the last 10 minutes?

if so can I change it for another copy/have my money back/swap it for Russ Meyer's 'supervixens'?

By the way...you might be doing your home repairs till 2am but i have a loud stereo system and if you are unlucky enough to live in the flat next door to me you will hear the greatest hits collection of The Wurzels/Shakin Stevens and Showaddywaddy coming loud and clear through your walls!!!At 6am and on a loop throughout the day till i come home!!!

Retalliation takes many forms!!! Wink
