| My wife and I recently arrived at this school in Guangzhou and were treated appallingly. We were told the school was in Guanzhou city about half an hour from the train station. In fact it was over a hour away and when we went through the toll gates to leave the city we knew we were in trouble. When we told the Headmaster Mr. Du he told us that they were not responsible for us being lied to about the location as the recruiter has told us this, not them. The school is in an industrial town which is a total dump. We told him we did not want to work there and he asked us to sleep on it. The next day we were woken and asked to come and see Mr. Du. When we told him we were still not interested they told us to get our luggage, (16 bags), and dumped us at the train station. The driver did not speak English and we don't speak Chinese. We have never been to Guanzhou before and did not know what to do. We had too much luggage to fit into 2 taxis and couldn't tell them where to take us even if we knew where to go. Thank god a very nice security guard at the train station used sign/body language to ask us if we wanted a hotel. He rang his friend who worked at a hotel and picked us and our luggage up in a van and took us to his hotel. Mr. Du is a complete *beep*. We asked him if we could stay at the school for 3 days to sort ourselves out but he said it was very difficult and they had no contract with us. They also said we had to leave because they had other teachers coming and they needed the apartment. They then advertised the positions again the next day using the same recruiter that had lied to us ( [email protected] ) He brought up the fact that they had paid for our meal the night before about 15 times as if he had given us a million dollars. Mr. Du is scum and I would keep well away from this organization. |

Why blaming, accusing Du if he is not the one that recruited you?

I agree with that. However, I think the OP was angry because the headmaster lacked compassison and sympathy towards people who were obviously lied to and were stranded. Also, the fact that he said that the school couldn't afford to give the OP and his spouse free accomodation because other teachers were coming, only to use the same recruiter (who the OP should be even more angry at) to advertise the position. Last but not least, the OP was obviously ticked because the headmaster seemed to figure that because the school had paid for the FT's dinner, he didn't owe them anything seeing that the FT's weren't going to stay.
IMO, as a gesture of good will, the headmaster should have offered to rent out the apartment for a day or two so the OP and his spouse could sort out their situations. |

I contacted Mister Du, he explained that the couple left without notice....
He also explained that the couple had signed a contract and the pay was 7000RMB.
I am waiting for Delicious's feeedbacks

Unfortunately, this sort of story is fairly normal for China. As once noted by 'A token of my extreme', there are two broad classes of teacher in China: those that have had a bad experience and those that are about to.
I can fully understand why the poster is angry with this particular headmaster, though, even if he didn't recruit them himself. After all, he is using a recruiter who he knows lies, and this no doubt suits him as he can plead ignorance each and every time someone states they have been lied to.
I would have to ask two questions, though. First, what were you doing with more bags than could fit into two taxis? Did you pack the kitchen sink or something? Second, why on earth would you allow yourselves to be recruited by someone who uses a Yahoo email account? Surely legitimate recruiters would have their own domain name?
You do have to be careful with place names in China. They often employ the same name both for a city and the suburbs surrounding it, as well as the countryside surrounding the suburbs. |

What do you mean by "he explained"? Surely you mean "he claimed"? The guy in question would say that, wouldn't he? |

Hmmm...so now the question is, who should you really believe considering the fact that both parties' claims are so different. |

I say: Enough crocodile's tears now!
Maybe the OP was so grumpy with jetlag that he forgot good manners, and Mr Du decided the new arrivals were too much of a liability for his students.
Is it asking for too much that people not show their emotionality on day 1? |

I dunno... I woulda been slightly suspicious of the whole thing simply because the recruiter was using a yahoo email account.
How reliable is it that there was a "miscommunication" between the recruiter and the school itself? |

Well, according to the OP's previous posts, they arrived in Hebei back in late October and started in November to fill up sudden job vacancies and completed their contract in early July. According to a post, they were supposed to be going to Jiangxi. But somehow they ended up in Guangzhou so I can only speculate that the Jiangxi job fell through, and out of desperation they had to quickly accept another job offer as they had nowhere to live. There is a Guanzhou in Jiangxi though.

and how many schools did you crew up yourself?
The difference between you and the person that you have been vilifying is that he does communicate and gives me information.
You dont, besides getting on the defensive; youre becoming critique of my suspicions.
It is your right to blackmail anyone on this forum; it is my pleasure to help proving right from wrong.
You never mentioned the school name.
You never mentioned the village name.
You never mentioned if you had a brain.
You never responded to my PM.
I had a dinner last night with a PSB and a CID official (no kidding), I am always willing to help anyone finding him/her self in difficult situation, but my friend and I do not deal with "Screw-up dudes": they are too funny to read... |
