Yes it is quite good but I note a number of outdated points of information as it was last updated in January 2003.

Contractual disputes, including claims for losses arising from misrepresentation of the terms and conditions of employment, can be dealt with only through the Bureau of Education of the municipal government where the employer is located (e.g. the cities of Taipei, Taichung or Kaohsiung). The Bureau will seek mediation with the employer. |
This is no longer true and hasn't been for a few years now.
Previously our work permits were issued by the CLA but through the MOE. Now the MOE no longer has any part in the process and therefore the CLA is the organization that we need to approach for contract disputes.

Canadians seeking work in Taiwan should check the credibility of a prospective employer with the nearest Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada or the Bureau of Education of the municipal government where the employer is located (see "Sources of Information"). The Bureau of Education will in turn contact the Ministry of Education as required. |
This sounds great, but I am not sure how helpful it would be. Has anyone ever done this?

After you have had the maximum of two extensions, you must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC). |
This would only apply to people who have been renewing their visitors visa for the purposes of study. After six months study you may apply for a student ARC. It does not apply to those who are working as you cannot legally work on a visitors visa.

Canadians who do not possess an airline ticket out of Taiwan when applying for a visitor visa will be granted a non-extendable visitor visa, requiring them to leave Taiwan within two months. |
In practice this is sometimes true. In theory, and based upon Immigration Law, all foreigners arriving in Taiwan must have an onward ticket out of the country. This is not consistently enforced however.

Persons whose application for employment is approved must leave Taiwan to acquire a resident visa at a Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office abroad. |
This is no longer true, and hasn't been for several years now.
In the past there was no way to convert a visitors visa into a resident visa within Taiwan. Now it has become standard practice and is even stated within the governments application procedures for Resident Visas as being a recommended method.

The application, together with the proper documents, must be filed at a Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office abroad. Canadian holders of resident visas can make multiple entries into Taiwan. |
This is no longer correct. See above.

In order for you to work legally in Taiwan, your employer must arrange a work permit for you. This can take months to process. |
It is true that the work permit application used to be lengthy. This was at the time that the MOE was involved. Now that the MOE is no longer involved and we deal directly with the CLA the process is much quicker. Less than a month in almost all cases. |
