Does anyone have information about teaching jobs/English schools in Laos and/or Cambodia? Has anyone lived there? Any idea of wages/cost of living?
I'm thinking of heading that way (seems like I'm heading every way) from India after my contract.
Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
FYI, I've got a BA, CELTA and experience in case you were going to ask.
Thank you in advance. |

i cant help you with cambo, but i lived and taught in laos for two years - just finished up there a couple of mths back. there are plenty of part time jobs, they pay about US$10 an hour after tax. some places will also supply a work visa. full time positions are harder to come by and basically you need to already be there to get them. as most dont advertise much. costs of living are cheap, a room in a hotel with air con adn cable tv will cost about US$150-200 a mth. rent for a 2 bed house is about $100-200 a mth. but can be hard to find immediately, you need to look around. a small motorbike, which is what ervyone rides and buys, 125CC costs about US$550 new, cheaper 2nd hand of course. i llived on about US250 a mth easily, not counting accom. you can usually get as many PT hours as you want, you just work at 2 or 3 different schools. if a school likes you they will offer you more hours as they get to know you. but first you just have to go, and build a network, it doesnt take long and the people are friendly. all positions are in Vientiane, there is one or 2 schools in LP and pakse, but those towns are super boring so you wouldnt want to go there to live anyway.
cheers,
susan.
if you go check out schools like:
american academic center
acl phongsavan english
