I'm asking on behalf of a friend whom I'm too busy to tutor myself at the mo: what's a fair price-per-hour for a private in Shanghai currently? |

To find out what other teachers are charging for private tutoring, take a look at the following website:
There are many teachers listed there who are looking for work in Shanghai (and other areas of China). The range of rates that the teacher is willing to except are listed on each profile. And its free to create your own profile if you want to find students. |

I would not ask for less than 150 per hour, and 200 is more reasonable. For groups of three or more 250. I am charging 250 now for three high school students, two times a week, two hours each time.
Lots of people come here and get suckered into doing it for 75, 100, etc, but nowhere on the east coast should you get less than 100, and in Shanghai, 150 is the minimum. Remember, you will need prep time, transport fees, and materials, plus a small personalized class should cost more. |

I have seen lots of Ads from Foreign Teachers in Shanghai asking 300 yuan per hour for one-on-one tutoring. Outside of Shanghai it would be much lower.
