This may sound like a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anway.

If you are leaving Thailand after resigning your position with no plans to return in the immediate future, is there any reason to get a re-entry permit before leaving?

This assumes my present employer will have my non-im B visa cancelled in due order and were I to return, it would be as a tourist.

Hi there,

If you are leaving and not returning by the end date of your non-imm B then there is really no point - it will cost you 1900 B for no reason.

If I were you I would just leave then if / when you ever decide to return you can apply for a new one.

Also, if you have a work permit (which you will need to return to the Deprtment of Labour) you have 7 days to exit the country, after which your non - imm B would be invalidated and you would have to either apply for a new one (in Malaysia) or get a tourist visa at any border crossing.

^ They can still cancel it mate whether you hand it in or not. Although you haven't said your Non-imm B has been extended or if you have any further entries on it???

So you can either:

Risk that they don't cancel your Visa and leave when you're currently due to leave.

Do as you should and leave 7-14 days later (dependant on who cancels the WP) and get whatever you fancy getting (30 dayer, tourist, new Non-imm, etc.)

Or get a re-entry permit as I've 'heard' if you have one of these and leave on a cancelled Visa they won't know it's cancelled (I've not tried this myself though), but you could possibly have problems at a later date if you try to get a new work permit.
