Perhaps it's time for some RnR.

I like Olympos. It is such a calming place for me- the rooster's cry echoing off the valley walls, the orange trees, the ruins, the Australian backpackers... ahhhh makes me forget me woes and get dread locks and multiple tats.

Does anyone know any good resort-siz holiday spots? I don't like the big hotels, I like pensions. I don't like big party places anymore-been there, done that.

And I would like to avoid the beach magandas. Confused None of those in Olympos. Laughing

Any ideas?

Even though I love the water, Cappadocia is my all-time favourite spot. Sure there can be tourists, but it is so broad and open that you don't actually have to be in contact with them if you chose.

There's a place in Guzelyurt, near Ihlara, called the Karballa. I stayed there (there is also a pension that is cheaper than the Karballa - but I loved the Karballa - old monastary, the walls just drip with history).

This is the place I'd go to for total R&R. Get up early, walk the trails, smell the fresh bread baking in the morning... And, it's not as hot as you'd think, being in the interior and all. I stayed there in August and found it much cooler than Antalya.

Just my two cents (+gst/pst).

I second the cappadocia vote. When I lived in the area I used to wander around the region almost every weekend-- and even now I return as oft as I can (well, only 3 times this year but my work schedule sucked). It's so restful, so quiet and often empty depending on where you go. Only a few places are touristed so if you move away from those centres -or just use them as cozy bases (goreme, urgup mainly) you can breathe again....

gumusluk down on the Bodrum peninsula. Just what you're looking for. Alternatively the northern Agean-Ayvalik, Ayvacik, Assos, Akcay, etc. id also suggest Oren but it doesn't begin with A Confused

Hear hear for Kapadokya. There are plenty of places with a beach and sea but only one Kapadokya. Ihlara valley to the south is gorgeous. Further north, Gokce adasi's supposed to be nice but windy.

Should have made it clear: Gokce ada's in the north Aegean, sort of where it meets the Marmara. lots of old Greek houses, tavernas and so on. Worth a visit ?

tekirdag,
why don't you go to Igneada, Castro or Kıyıkoy? nice and quiet places. In Kıyıkoy go to "Sahil pansiyon"and speak to Kamil Bey and tell him "Whynotme hocanın selamı var" It is not the most comfortable place but good for 2 or 3 days with nature. I love the fish resturants there, some of my friend go to Kıyıkoy just to eat fish.

ı think i need another holiday Smile

Adana. I'm not joking. It is a pretty city(in the centre) and not too far away a few quiet lovely places on the coast.

Yeah the water flows round the tables and they do very nice humus and fish while you cool your feet. Can't remember the name of the place though. Didn't see the spider either.

The spider was the size of a tennis ball, it was crawling up my leg. I jumped up and kicked it across the restaraunt. The place emptied in seconds after my scream of shock. Two waiters eventually beat it death with a couple of brooms.

Was it a sarikiz ? (big yellow b**tard) I've had a similarly unpleasant experience with a sarikiz. I was staying with this family who'd given me a lift after I'd come down off this mountain in the south. We were having a barbecue on their veranda when this huge yellow spider appeared near where granny was sitting on a kilim. Panic ensued. I've never seen a woman of 80-odd move so quickly. Attempts were made to bludgeon the spider with a burning brand from the barbecue. Eventually the grandson got the spider and its mate, but not before setting fire to the kilim and part of the veranda too. Anyone else got any big scarey spider stories ?
