What is the best way to research for school to teach at in Taiwan? Is there any black listed places I should watch out for or schools that I really should look into? Any information would appreciated!

Thanks Girlscout. I think that buxiban.com is the best place for information about schools, but I am no doubt somewhat biased in this regard!
As a rough overview, there are probably only a handful of schools that should be avoided at all costs. The majority of schools will treat you right and pay you what they say when they say.
The biggest and most common problems that arise are nearly all due to misunderstandings. Sometimes its the schools fault and sometimes its the teachers fault.
Often problems with school arise when schools fail to understand how important it is to most westerners to have a reliable schedule and reliable number of hours and hence reliable income.
Often problems arise with teachers when their expectations are not met, even though at times the teachers expectations were unrealistically high.
Everyone who comes here is likely to encounter some difficulties. If you want to avoid the sort of trouble that is likely to ruin your time in Taiwan then try to be understanding and reasonable.
In my opinion the best way to protect yourself is to research the relevant laws and understand your rights here. |
