I am about to begin a new job as a ESL teacher, and am planning on travelling a bit around Asia afterwards. But I have to figure out what to do with my stuff until I am ready to go home -- since my job is a year contract, I will have way too much with me to lug it around. I guess my options are either to store in my homebase city (which would require going back through there before flying hom), or shipping it home (expensive?). If anyone has experience doing this, please share!

Also, regarding the return home ticket that is provided in my contract -- I am considering asking my school to either fly me home at a later date or just give me cash for the value of the ticket they would have bought. I know that the best way to answer this question would be to ask the employer, but just out of curiousity, has anyone tried to do this before??

It might help to know what country you plan to work in. Different countries have different customs/situations.

Also approximate planned travel route would help.

How much stuff do you plan on shipping back? A few books and clothes can usually be sent at a reasonable price from the post office in any country.

If your going to be teaching in Taiwan www.tealit.com has the shipping rates on their webite. I would suggest just shipping it home rather than going back to the country. Try not to buy lots of stuff and you will be fine.
