I see ZU is posting for instructors again. Does anyone have the inside scoop on what's going on there? |

I can count on the fingers of one hand how many ZU posters we have ever had here. They are as rare as AUS and HCT posters.
I wondered the same thing when I saw the ad. My first speculation was that perhaps the happenings in London and Egypt had scared off some of the more timid first time ME teachers that they may have offered to. ??
I wonder if there is anyone in the UAE right now to pick up any rumors off the streets...

I was very surprised to see the job posting and the fact they still need teachers for this fall.
I also am wondering what went wrong since Zayed has an excellent reputation. |

well, we don't really 'know' that something went 'wrong' -- often in the Gulf these government institutions get told by the Ministry that they will have X + 50 new students, rather than X. Then there is a sudden scramble for a couple more teachers... not to mention more desks or texts. And they are often told literally the day before the students arrive.
Naturally they will probably try to pick up people already in country if they can - at this late date.

It could be a combination of ME newbies being scared off and the fact that it was disclosed last week in the Gulf News that university enrollment is way up this year in the Emirates.
Possibly good news for disaffected MLIers??????????

I know that there are many of them that would love to jump over to ZU, but they would need release letters... yes?
I wouldn't imagine that they could get them at this point.

...yes, and so the people who would seem to be most eligible would be those who are already there, not working or working as an adjunct, and sponsored by someone already working there?
Merely theorizing,

According to my sources, the military has cancelled their contracts effective 31 August, so I guess that in itself is a release. Besides, it seems that a lot of them got LoNos to interview at TESOL Arabia this year.

Well, which one are you referring to? the original one ZU or the other one mentioned, which is MLI or the one that took over MLI, HCT...
If you really have any interest, I suggest that you do a search and a few hours of reading on all of them. Plenty of threads here and there is the Job Information Journal...
Or were you just trying to be clever...

My thought exactly.
Look at that, NCTBA: We agree on something. Nice what a little distance will do for a relationship. |

OK, lots of speculation. How about someone from Zayed giving us the inside story of hirings this fall? |

I must admit that I laughed out loud at that one.
Please don't hold your breath waiting for someone to ZU to actually come here and tell us anything - not to mention the 'inside story.'
Posters from ZU (AUS and HCT) almost never come to Dave's. They may read, but they don't post. I probably wouldn't run out of fingers counting the total posters from all three of those employers in the last 10 years...
Not to mention that it is August... so, the grapevine is even closed down for the summer since everyone is traveling...

Hope for the best. Expect the worst.
Many of us have lived in the Gulf and know these things. |
