Hey guys,
Got my ticket, all set to go. Decided to find a place to live when I get there. There's a couple of days between when I get there and when the school I'm going to holds orientation. Any suggestions on a place to stay until I find a permanent place?
Thanks,
Dan |

A hostel: if you make sure it's nice and central and it has a common room (very important) then you can make some useful contacts/mates as loads of new teachers will be coming around this time. Expect to pay around 18 euros a night for a dorm bed type deal. There are also single rooms in hostels for about 22 euros a night, advantage being you'll sleep a little better, but you'll be a little isolated and there'll be no cooking area/common room usually: depends what you want really.
For the dorm-type place then "Los Amigos" is ok, there are two of them pretty centrally located: a bit money-orientated and some of the Argentinian attendants there can be a bit irritating, but they're clean and cheerful and do have common areas and kitchens. |

Hi Moore,
Do you know of any dorm style places? I don't mind sharing as long as it's cheap, clean and there are a few other rabble rousers around as well. |

Hi Dan,
I'm in Boston as well. This is off topic, but when I saw that you were in Boston, I thought I'd say hi and ask about your travel plans.
Where or what service did you use to get your airline ticket? One way or flex return and if flex return how do you do that? I've seen it mentioned but can't find the option on studentuniverse or the other sites i've tried.
I'll be heading to Barcelona next month and I contacted someone through loquo.com, which is like craigslist and has short term room rentals. However, if you feel it is unsafe i guess a hostel is the best bet.
When does your course start in Madrid and what school?
Good luck. |

There's a hostel called "Los Amigos": theres one in calle Campomanes and another in calle Arenal, the first one is probably the better one. It's about 16 a night and all dorms, but the good thing is that there's a common room to meet other people. Many of the staff are the biggest w*nkers you could hope to meet, but it's very central.
Try the website loquo (.net./.com/etc.) and you should be easily able to find something now the rush is over. |
