Hi, Im new to the boards. Ive decided to try teaching in Asia. My initial plans were to do a course to get a TEFL certificate, then try and get a job in Thailand, and if I enjoy teaching, I would continue on my schooling to become a better teacher.
I was wondering how easy it is to get a teaching job without any certificate or college degree. Would the pay be enough to live on? Also what would be the cheapest and easiest way to be able to try this profession, so that I can decide if this is what I want to do or not. And how long would I have to commit myself to a school to get the job.

Any responses are greatly appreciated.

If you don't have a degree, then by all means get a TEFL certificate of some sort. It will greatly improve your employability.

A salary of 30 - 40K is enough to get by on. You will want to look into ways to supplement your income.

A University degree is a requirement to get q work visa tro teachEnglish in Japan, although it is possible to teach on a one-year working Holiday Visa, but this cannot be renewed/extended.

I would always recommend getting a CELTA if you can at all afford it. It provides invaluable advice and experience, as well as giving you an edge when job-seeking, especially if you don't have a degree.
