I'm going to Buenos Aires this weekened, and hope to look for work as an english teach while i'm there. question: how do you guys manage phone use abraod? ive heard calling cards are the best way for outgoing calls, but how do potential employers manage to reach you? anyway rent a cell services you recommend? any help greatly appreciated, thanks!
ps. if anyone has additional suggestion of places to look for work, or general advice, id love that too! |

It depends a lot on where you are.
In Indonesia, text messaging was very popular and extremely cheap, so most of the teachers bought cheap handphones and mostly texted with them. We also had a phone in our shared housing, and those were used to make any long distance calls overseas.
Here in Mexico, the pay phones only accept debit cards issued from the phone company. I find I get a better rate with those than with a desk phone. Handphones are cheap but the air time is really expensive. |

I am not sure how it is in South America, but here in Central Europe and even in parts further east, everyone and their 6 year old child has a cell phone- the service is good and quite cheap. Much better than in America. |
