Is there any good scuba diving in Taiwan, and if so, where? |

I haven't been yet, but from what I hear, Green Island is as good as Thailand. Orchid is reputedly quite splendid as well.
So far, the best outfitter I've met is a guy named Scott Stevens. You can reach him at [email protected]. Or PM me for his phone #. |

Thanks for the advice Pop Fly. How far away are those islands from Taipei, and would it be practical to go there on a weekend? I was thinking that since Taipei is so close to the ocean there might be scuba diving right there.
I'm gonna email that guy like you suggested, but if you happened to know about the question above let me know.
Thanks,

I was watching a Discovery Channel documentary on jobs in the scuba industry. There was this HazMat guy who had to go into a cesspool of offal and waste to turn off a sluice that was threatening the locals with streets aflow with excrement. It was the grossest thing I've ever seen. But I've never been "diving" near Taipei.
Orchid and Green are ideally situated for a 2 day trip but not so for single day trips. Beware that Orchid has suffered an oil spill and may not be ready. Scott would know more. |

Thanks again Pop Fly. Hopefully I won't have to resort to diving in excrement.

Lots of great scuba diving in Taiwan.
If you are located in or near Taichung City, you can check out Taiwan Scuba. They organize / teach PADI courses, have a variety of Instructors who speak a variety of languages available and schedule fun dives down South on weekends.
The website site is: www.taiwanscuba.com |

aren't there a lot of dive shops in the Kending area?
hmmm...let me check out my stack of business cards:
FU DOG
dive-surf-hostel
#232 NanWan Rd., HengChun, PingTung Co. 946
www.fudog-dive-surf.com
0925092036 (mobile)
08-8897141
They weren't much of a surf shop (in my humble So. Californian native opinion), but they seemed to have a great deal of scuba gear and offered lessons, tours, etc.
I hope that this helps. Have fun!
