Hi again,

Has anyone taken a train or bus to Istanbul from Athens Greece? I know it's probably far, but does anyone know approx. how many hours?
I've been told if I get a night train and rent a sleeping compartment it should be good - but this is from someone who has never done the trip! Athens seems far to me, so I've been looking for airports in Greece that are closer to the border which budget airlines actually fly to!

I am still looking for the best way to get into Turkey from London England ( I am cheap so looking at flying with Ryanair or Easyjet).

Suggestions anyone? Cheers!

The train takes 24 hours. I have done it once and had a good laugh on it. The bus is quicker butnot sure exactly how long.
When the mighty liverpool were in Istanbul conquering Europe I met alot of scousers who couldn't get a ticket to Istanbul. So they got ryan air or equivalent to Sofia and travelled from there or got a flight to an airport down south, then took the bus up. Prices are ridiculously low. 20 quid or something.

I think sofia would be much easier.

DMB, you wrote "fly to an airport down south, then take a bus up" do you mean down south of Turkey? Or of Greece or another country?

Thanks for the tips!
