Another random thought from dmb.
If the Spanish forum can do it, so can we.
Anyone interested? I know of a venue(the manager doesn't know it yet)
If so what would the format be? Prize? best day? pay to play? raise money for charity?Excuse for a pi$$ up Let's hear your ideas.
31, Will you offer your services as quizmaster?(free booze all night)

I'm interested. I'm okay at some trivia, but I suck at sports, counties in England, and English politicians. I know this from my solo home rounds with 'Weakest Link'.

Let's raise money for Mor Catı.

Count me in.
When I used to play years ago we used to charge a small fee to play and the money would go to charity (plus a small prize as incentive - although if it's a pub venue that'll be incentive enough!).
Welcome back, justme.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance. what's mor Cati? I will/should/might/possibly be in Cadde I'kabir over the weekend and I'll talk to the manager. He will be more than helpful at hosting such an event. Give it a month or so though as it's a new term, new jobs, etc( and this is Turkey)

Thanks ImamH. Very Happy Are you back too?

Mor Catı is the battered women's shelter. I imagine they're fighting a losing battle. I just got interested in them because I wanted to find somewhere to donate old clothes, sheets, towels, stuff like that. I didn't want to give them to the kapıcı, and I didn't want my mother-in-law to root through them for stuff to give her kapıcı because a lot of it is stuff she gave us and I know she'll keep giving us more. So I googled 'battered women's shelter Turkey' and turned up Mor Catı. I don't know if there are others.

And besides leaving stuff out for the gypsies or giving it to the kapıcı, I don't have other ideas for what to do with old stuff. Anyone else found a creative solution for this?

Pub Quiz in a month, I'm in. Pub's enough prize for me too.

Yup, I am back too, just. It's a bit weird after two months with no TV and barely any internet access (I'm kind of hoping that explains why I've not a clue what you an dmb are talking about on the other thread - su gibi something?).
Great idea about the shelter.
That or something kid-related gets my vote.

Welcome back! I just noticed I spelled your name as 'imam' before-- sorry! Embarassed

One reason I like Mor Catı is because it's women and their kids both. But I'd be all for a kids' place too. Or a getting girls into school effort of some sort...

Su gibisin is a very annoying song. I've had it in my head since I wrote that post. Sad

I am totally in favour of raising money for Mor cati
Can I offer an alternative, however?
The lance Armstrong foundation. (You know me there had to be a sport connection)
Justme, I'll have a look around, I read an article yesterday about the foundation and he has offered and given alot of aid to sufferers of cancer in New Orleans to get them to hospital for immediate help.
If you don't know Lance

Thanks dmb and don't worry justme. It happens a lot - or varieties of, along with some very odd versions of my surname and the standard joke of "you're not a man" when I'm introduced to some.
Sorry about the song - the annoying things is to get it out of your head you usually need another equally annoying one.
My husband's latest way of tormenting me is to whistle that STUPID song from Kill Bill, which takes me a year and a day to forget. Now of course I've sabotaged myself.
Sorry, sorry dmb I am going totally off-topic here.
Lance Armstrong foundations sounds good too, maybe we could have a variety of different charities?

Now I have some stupid whistled song in my head, but I'm not sure if it's the same one.

Lance Armstrong sounds good too. That's the trouble with choosing a charity-- they all sound good, then you start to feel bad about the ones you chose not to help.

Then let's give the money to 31.

I don't think he wants our help. God knows we've tried.

Maybe we could use the money to start the PERFECT Language School, where Nothing Ever Goes Wrong.
