Hello all, I am considering coming over to Taiwan from Korea, but I am a bit worried about things. I don't wish to get involved with another no-pay school.
I have taught in Korea for 3 years, both adults and kids, as well as 2 years in Mexico. I don't have a B ed, just a BA and a TESOL cert. so I don't know what schools I would be qualified to teach in over there. I am 43 years old, single, Canadian. (I don't know if age is a factor )
I have only taught in private language institutes until now and I assume that is what I would be doing there......... or is it possible for me to teach in regular schools ?
Can anyone tell me what my prospects would be there?
How does the teaching compare with Korean hagwans? I've heard that the kids are a bit different than Korean kids so I was wondering if they are
better or worse or about the same (from a teacher's perspective).
Anyway, Thanks in advance. |

Sanhsia is a city in Taipei County. It is a fair way from the center of Taipei and a distinctly separate city, rather than just a district of Taipei.
It is close to some beautiful places in the mountains. However, if you want nightlife and culture you will find yourself making frequent trips to Taipei. Getting to Taipei from there involves a bus all the way to Taipei or bus to Banqiao where you can transfer to the train or MRT. Minimum travelling time would be an hour and possibly a lot longer. The MRT will extend to Tucheng in about a year or so. After that getting to Taipei would be more convenient, although you would probably still have a 20 minute bus trip to the MRT station. |
