I'm a bit of a vitamin freak and try to take a daily dose of:

Fish oil concentrate (Omega-3)
Ginkgo
Garlic
Vitamin C (cranberry concentrate)
Saw Palmetto
Aloe Vera Colon Cleanse
Echinacea

So far it's kept me super healthy and I'd like to continue my regime when I move to Thailand (maybe I won't need the garlic!).

Do supermarkets in Bangkok stock a wide range of vitamins and, if not, are there Health Food shops where they can be found?

I'm hoping this isn't a stupid question (prepare to be flamed...)

I don't know that you'd be able to find the C as cranberry concentrate - but certainly all of the products you mentioned and the C (generic probably) are available.

GNC is a good place to start - they have branches around BKK and around the country.

But . . . these type products are probably MUCH cheaper in your home country. You may find the costs here prohibitive.

Don't know about the UK, but in the States I can find those supplements at Walmart for about 1/5 to 1/10th of what they would cost here. You might find it cheaper to have them mailed to you (in small quantities so the customs follks don't get greedy).

Thanks for all the advice - very useful. I will stock up and bring them with me. Now I only have my baggage allowance to worry about!

^ I get all the vitamins I need from Chang beer.

But seriously, here's what I found this afternoon

at a little Soi Health & Vitamin shop near my apt:

Omega 3 Fish Oil:

60 capsules (1,000 mg) @ 300 Baht

or 90 capsules (1,000 mg) @ 380 Baht

A good antioxidant multi-vitamin called Blackmore's Ace

which includes A, C, E and a B group: 60 tablets @ 400 Baht

Ginkgo: 30 tablets @ 550 Baht

Plus, they had a large stock of Centrum & other name brands

as well as a nice selection of generic brands at lower prices.

As tedkarma and Pinchy mentioned above, vitamins aren't cheap ... but

with an exchange rate of US $1 = 40 Baht, I'm not sure you'll save

too much money by stuffing these things into your suitcases !

Might be smarter, cheaper and easier to simply budget $100

to buy vitamins; with 4,000 Baht you can buy a lot of fish oil.

or

you could do what I do and eat a can of tuna every day.

At 34 Baht it's a good deal and fills your tummy too. Laughing
