The English Reader bookstore on Los Leones and Providencia has Wifi internet in it's cafe, and it's free to use if you buy a coffee. The coffee is dead good too.
I have VTR broadband in my apartment and it's a pretty simple process to have installed. I think it costs about $Ch 20,000 per month for a 600mb connection. Visit one of the VTR stores to find out more, there's one on Av.Septiembre 11. |

wi fi is also avail at other cafes up in Las Condes. There's a strip either on El Bosque Norte or Isidora Goyonochea (sp. is horrendous on that one!), that advertise WiFi as well. I remember seeing a sign outside of Dunkin Donuts one time, and there's some other cafes nearby that had signs, too.
on the internet in your apt thing, VTR does mainly providencia and around there. Downtown is telefonica, and entel serves parts of the city, too. First thing you have to do is figure out which one serves your building (you can't shop around), and then go to one of their offices to set up service. Warning! Ask stu about VTR, but when I tried to get telefonica before I had my carnet, it couldn't be done. No amount of pleading, credit card promises or anything else could get me phone service, and thereby internet. VTR provided me service without a RUT, but that was 1.5 years ago.
The price stu said sounds a little lower than what I remember, but maybe mine included phone and cable, can't remember.
fwiw, there are several internet cafes on monjitas for 400 pesos/hour, and one on cienfuegos in barrio brasil that cost the same, just until you get your own stuff up and running. Up in provi it can be more like 700 an hour. Most expensive internet yet seen in Chile: 1200 an hour at the mall in puerto montt. Still cheaper than anything you'd find in the states though! |

hello,
i have been trying to find a good internet service but haven't had much luck. found one that is from 9 at night to 7 in the morning but that is not really too good. so, this 20,000 600 speed seems good, stu, how did you get it? if i use my brother's rut, would that work? how do they check, it may be him who is paying, right? anyway, i live on vergara, downtown i guess, and vtr has service here but i couldn't find the prices online.
thanks for any suggestions

My girlfriend has a RUT so we didn't have any trouble. I'm not sure they still do the $20.000 offer, it was only for 6 months. Ours has just ran out and it's now $28.000 or $29.000 I think. |
