Some folks want positive posts. It's a good idea and nothing is more positive, I think, than FOOD!
My k�y in Canada just has the WORST meals ever so I am in love with Turkish food(not my Turkish husband ). It's drowned in oil but I DON'T GAIN WEIGHT!! Heaven!
At first I thought oily rice was nasty but now I lick my plate clean. My first bowl of ezo gelin soup-I'll never forget-was a religious experience. Mercimek soup is groovy and I make a mean pot, if I do say so myself.
Egg plant and minced meat- who knew?! Love the stuff! Yogurt on tomato sauce on meat on bread? Iskender is the ultimate!

The way to anyone's stomach... I love iskender too, though I pass on the mercimek, as it does not agree with me. My favourites are the mezes, topik, haydari, those green sea vegetables, etc. Yum.
Favourite desserts? baklava, kadayif, seker pare. My friend's restauranton Nevizade Sok serves this wonderful fig dessert, dried figs that have been soaked and then cooked in carmelized suger, with carmelized sugar on top, and then a dab of kaymak on top of that. oh my god-- to die for.
I see ads for ayva ice cream. anyone tried it? i think it is such a useless fruit... |

One of the best things about Turkey is the food. I guess living in abig city you don't notice the regional variations too much. But then you visit the smaller towns and villages and you can see the variety of Turkish cuisine. Am I alone in this strange habit. I go to bursa, I have Bursa kebab, Urfa I have the Urfa kebab, Adana- the Adana kebab, Ayvalik-the tost, you get the picture.
I can't begin what are my faves.

Sheeps brain(Inc. soup)
koc yumartasi
Iskembe
I think thats it
I'm actually a really cheap date I just love the local lokantalar |

Kokırech is the mutt's nuts. As is beyin tavasi. But I agree with your regional point. I love the fact that good food is so darn cheap too.

I like kokorech for breakfast, go to fins the right place though. Mer�an in Kadik�y is the place.
'Wet Burgers' sounds rude. YOu don't mean them Kizkaler Burgers do you? |

--Mangalbaşı restaurants, where you can have 4 kinds of meat in one sitting, especially the H�nkar k�fte and beyti at H�nkar (�alişlar Sok, Bah�elievler-- they also have fantastic mezes...)
--The Iskender at a Bursa İskender also on �alışlar, but there's like 3 of them. This one has an all green sign and a dark-stained wood lattice-y seating area outside. Best İskender I've ever had, including that in Bursa-- perfectly cooked and seasoned, the water from the yoghurt never runs into the pide (I hate when that happens! Stupid soggy pide...), pide perfectly toasted...

--Homemade aşure is good for breakfast... or lunch... or whatever
--Kavurma, esp. my ma-in-law's...
--I agree ayva is useless
--The acılı kanat from Kanat�i Ağa or Revan (same owners) in beylikd�z� (I'm there every weekend even though the next morning the kanat is a little too uh... spicy. Great mezes
--Malatya/K�y peyniri
--Mandarin oranges (so cheap here!)

baba, I've only seen them around Taksim meydani and they are called wet burgers. not islak burgerleri but wet burgers. |

I have to walk past about 8 places that sell them on the way home at the weekend. by the time i finish one I'm ready for another. They are quite small and go in about 4 bites. |

I've eaten whatever you call it, the half a sheep's head on a plate many times while drunk and it was pretty good, especially the cheeks.
Dunno if I'm brave enough to try it sober. And as far as I'm concerned, işkembe and kellepa�a soups are revolting in any condition. |

Yeah, in a salad, and as a Mezzi. I like it, first time I ate it I'd just watched Hannibal about 2 hours before. |
