Hello,

I am moving to Fukuoka in November and have been researching places I can do some of my favourite pasttimes. (kayaking, skydiving ect. )
I am coming to a lot of dead ends.
Does anyone know of great kayaking places or skydiving on Kyushu preferably??
What are some other thrill seeking activities in Japan? I don't mean ikebana either;)

If it's outdoor thrills you seek, look at www.outdoorjapan.com for some help.

If you have time for a trip further up north, theres a great bungee jumping place in Yamagata-ken, near Mt. Gassan (on the way to the ski resort). You jump off a little wooden bridge over a river. Aaaaahhhh... I had a couple of great days there.

P.S. I always got a thrill out of my weekly ikebana class! My sensei was an absolute riot, even though 94% of the time I had no clue what she was saying.

I did a quick google search and there was a page with several links on kayaking in Japanese. Nothing in English at all.

Kayaks are called "canoe" here so if you type that in katakana you should get some leads. I have heard of a bungee place in Gifu and I have also heard of hot air ballooning in Saga area.

Extreme sports such as cycling in middle of road?

(I was reported to my school recently for "putting myself in danger by cycling in the middle of the road" - It's called waiting for a gap in traffic to cross the road dummy!).

Hey...I'm not in Japan yet but will be soon. I am an avid Kayaker as well (enjoying the wonderful rivers in Scotland right now) and searched around for info on kayaking and other outdoor sports. I came across the following website:

http://www.outdoorjapan.com

Not sure if it will offer any useful info (haven't looked through it yet) but at least it's a start and it's in english.

Rue,

It's not a great site for detail. I think I'll just have to look around. If you find anythign when you get here, please let me know.

Cheers,

K
