There was once a topic about private health insurance, but it kind of trailed off. Which companies would you recommend? I'm interested to know costs, and also which ones would give the freedom to go to expensive hospitals like American or Acibadem...

Acibadem insurance gives you some freedom, especially to go to their hospital but if you want to go to American hospital, you pay extra or select a more expensive plan. It is not a bad one. But soon i will switch to another plan because of new employment. The new plan is Yapi Kredis insurance company. I hope it is as good..

I had Koc Allianz for a couple of yrs but it was expensive (2500TL at the end). Now we have group insurance with Isvicre Sigorta, and it covers just about everything (20% deductible and we can go to the good hospitals). It is probably pretty reasonable for personal ins.

Thanks everyone. Entraillicus, when you say 'not cheap,' would you say it's more or less than Molly's Ko quote?

I used "Basak Sigorta" for a few years but dropped them when they added on what I'd cost them to the next year's bill. What is the point of insurance if you end up paying anyway?
