I thinking about taking the Canterbury TEFL course in October and was wondering if anybody who has taken the course has any feedback? I'm not much of a big city girl, so I would only spend the month of the course in Madrid and then I was hoping to work on a farm and offer private lessons in whichever area I ended up in. Does this seem feasible and worth the money, or should I skip the course and offer lessons without the certification? Also, is a hostel my only choice if I'm only staying in the city for a month? What about homestays?

Thanks a lot!!

I myself grew up in Southern California in a 'city' a fraction of the size of Madrid, so I didn't consider myself much of a 'big city boy' either. But I dont think you'd have such a bad time here. Yes its a fairly large and sprawling metropolis of 4million+ people but you might be surprised. I find a lot of pockets of small town feeling all throughout the city and if it's still too much there are a number of 'pueblos' only a short train ride away.

I assume you wouldnt really need a certificate if you were planning on heading straight to a small town, but I really have no idea. The main thing that should be pointed out though is that Madrid has the majority of the work.

Homestays for just a month might not be all that easy to set up and hostals or 'albergues' are the most economical and easiest choice of course.

There are a number of websites that help with finding places to stay, both long term and short term. madridinsider.com, loquo.com and multimadrid.com come to mind but there are more.

Good luck! Very Happy
