Hey, put a few posts up here trying to find reputable schools/company's for my wife and I to apply to and came across an ALTIA ad...so I applied and got an interview at their upcoming trip to London. Any body have any idea what to expect? How long of a process is it? We are flying down from Glasgow and can only get 2 days off. How about the job itself? I have heard good things about working for ALTIA (and read the posts here)...I know there is another new thread about Japanese ability and ALTIA...so nothing needed re: that 0incidently my wife and I have next to no Japanese laguage ability...although we are currently studying). We also have a possibility of getting into MIL. What do you guys think?

Call me old fashioned but would be a bit worried about travelling half way around the world to work for a company whose core business is illegal and that only offers employment with no job security.

How's about you expand a bit on your old fashioned views. I have ready other posts here on the web about ALT dispatching companies and have seen mixed reviews. You have any basis' for your old fashion views? Would love to be refered to proof.

If that's same group, I was interviewed by them before and was offered a job. It was one of the nicer interviews I've ever had. Turned out to be more of a friendly discussion. Had my life not thrown me the curves that it does I would have been more than happy to work for them.

Hi,

My time with them was a couple of years back, so please keep that (plus the fact I no longer work for them) in mind.

The conditions were:
- 250,000 a month.
- Mon - Fri.
- 8:30 - 4:30.
- A company car (kei type - in other words very small, but you dont need anything else) - which you pay half the insurance and parking fee (as well as all the gas naturally).
- at the time they offered money to have people study Japanese (not much but a little), as well as bonuses for those who passed the Japanese language tests (both of which I think have stopped).
- You got all public holidays as well as most of the summer break (though had to come back early for their 2 day bonding all employee get together, which was alright - just better if run over a normal weekend, which I think they changed too).
- About one Sat/Sun a month you had to meet your supervisor and discuss things, submit a lesson plan (they use the lesson plans as selling tool, by making a booklet to show BOE for future contract bids.
- Apart from the day they take you into the school, you only see them again when they come to observe your lessons (maybe twice a year - something done to justify there existance)

Most people had no trouble with ALTIA, I had some issues - but I can be difficult at times (I dont like having to work for a mid company, but that is mostly the ALT way) - they did at the time make alot of most teachers contracts, but with W5 around that has changed.

The foreign staff were alway pleasant and generally good people - they'd be surprised if they knew who was writing this, but I do try and be honest. Chris Oystan (I'm speliing it wrong) is a good guy and was the main foreign manager from memory.

Japanese ability is important and where I had my difficulties, and I understand why they want you to possess it.
