Hi everyone!

I have been looking into applying for a job at an EF Sunter school and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about it? I have been told that there are alot of schools in Indonesia that don't treat their teachers all that great....I'm hoping this isn't one of them! Thanks guys.

The Sunter branch has been around a while now. You don't have to worry about not getting paid. Management and front desk staff were not the nicest but the office boys and photocopy staff etc. are friendly. The relative location of Sunter is a bit dodgy. Prone to floods and a fair way from decent restaurants and entertainment. Teacher's aren't too happy with the housing arrangement. Hot and dusty were the main complaints. Sunter is connected with the Cempaka Mas and Kelapa Gading branch. These two are better places to work. You could always apply for a transfer down the track. That said, Sunter isn't that bad..as far as EF goes.

Sunter is like any number of anonymous suburbs of Jakarta. No better or worse. A mix of industry and housing complexes that people pass through every day on their commute to the city centre. It aint pretty, so don't build up your hopes for a tropical paradise.

On the plus side, it's closer to the entertainments of central Jakarta than many EF's although at busy times it will still take at least an hour to get there. The airport is not too far away and one direct flight will get you to most destinations in the archipelago.

If it's a first job - fine. Do your year and look for something more upmarket if you fancy staying in Indonesia afterwards. If you have good qualifications, experience and ability then shop around a bit before signing up.

thanks for the info guys Very Happy I was actually looking into either Sunter or Kelapa Gading...I guess Kelapa would be the better choice? I hear they're near eachother so would the housing situation be basically the same? This is my first job that I'm looking for, so I want to know EVERYTHING that i can know before i make any final decisions! Laughing Smile
Thanks again!

Kelapa Gading is a better location because it has good local options. It has excellent malls, good restaurants and a great sporting/fitness complex. Living here, as opposed to Sunter, you'll feel less inclined to constantly make your way into the city proper.

I haven't seen the teachers houses in K/Gading, but from previously chatting to some of the teachers there, they didn't seem to have too many complaints.

Ha ha! This little snippet - copied and pasted from a job ad on Dave's - cheered me up on an otherwise arduous morning.

Due to the large number of candidates interested in working with EF English First, only short-listed applicants will be contacted.
