Always bring a police record from home. This will be required in most countries in order to get a work permit (if necessary). Most of the time you have to do this "in person." Recently Ive seen people making trips back to Canada or the USA just to get these.
Having a police report with you may save you from a major headache. Good luck to all! |

Is this for Panama? I heard that Chile requires it, then later heard from someone teaching there that it wasn't needed after all. Mexico does not require it. |

I've never heard of foreigners having to provide a police report from "back home" here in La Repblica de Yucatn either. Here, unlike locals, foreigners don't even have to provide potential employers with an acta de no penales (report from local police department stating they've never been arrested for commiting a crime.) |

Way back in 1995, I had to submit a police report to the Ecuadorian Consul in Boston to get my cultural exchange visa for Ecuador. The funny thing is it had to be from a PD in that state, I got it from the Springfield, MA Police Department. I was only visiting my x's mother there and had been in Mass for three weeks. As I understood it, they ran a check on my name to see if I was wanted at the time, but didn't check for previous convictions .
I had a teacher apply here once, that I really wished I could have asked for this for. He didn't have a passport, as an American he came in with only his birth certificate, which is legal in Mexico. But when I said he'd have to get a passport for me to process him as a new employee he went all funny.
