Turkish men are irresistible.
That's what newspapers report and many people believe. Europen women flock to the south coast for the men.
I am married to a wonderful Turkish man and I have met some real gems but as a foreign woman I find the generalization that "turkish men are irresistible" to be rediculous. (No offense intended to any Turkish men who read/post here. I expect you fall into the "gem" category.)
Thoughts? |

Which newspapers report this?
Might make for a good reading text. |

Sorry, can't direct you to a newspaper but I put non-newspaper link below. Sometime back a Canadian teacher came to work ranting how he had read it in a newspaper and very recently an Albanian teacher asked me what I thought of Turkish men as he had read we foreign gals come here for the men. He asked me if it was true.
I suppose it is related to the attitude that all foreign women are loose. I not talking about old lady dinner arms.

No hijack there, dmb. That can also be discussed- stereotype of Turkish women [i] or [i]foreign women/Turkish women compared or Foreign spouse vs Local spouse or.... problems in international relations as caused by generalizing a population ..or....

Was the article about Turkish men being irresistable written by a Turkish man? If so, that is all I needed to hear.
As for Turkish women, I find them absolutely irresistible!!! So much in fact I married one!!! I must admit, I am nothing more then a very average looking man, but in Turkey with blonde hair and blue eyes I become the "irresistible man". So much in fact that I found the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life and married her! (You know the one I am talking about, the girl that is so beautiful it hurts! You look at her and you already feel sad and depressed because she is so far out of your league and that you can actually feel pain in your heart from it breaking, yeah thats my wife) I can't wait to go back to America to show her off, I know this sounds horrible (sorry ladies I am not demeaning her to a the role of a puppet or a piece of meat and I do love my wife more then anything in the world) but she is so beautiful all at the same time that I feel I would never have a chance in the world to have a woman this beautiful to look in my direction, let alone marry me. Girls are always saying to me "your my best friend! I wish I could find a man like you!" and my favorite "You wouldn't want to date me!" If I didnt want to date you I wouldnt have asked now would I? So sorry, to make a long story short, yeah I find Turkish women to be Gods gift to men. I am just jelly when my wife has a pouty look on her face and says please when she wants something from me.
Of all the countries I have visited or lived in I find that only in Turkey that the women hate the men and the men hate the women. It is really a vicious circle.
People come for the drop dead gorgeous beaches and the cheap as *beep* hotels, not for the men or the women.

Apparently, many Turkish men consider themselves irresistible! However, I didn't find them irresistible at all. While living there nearly two years, I dated a mere four of them. The key is meeting educated, upper-class Turks who aren't condescending snobs. Sorry to say, but I just don't see the average Turk as being very interesting to a foreign woman...Too many obstacles to overcome -- Many live with their families, it's difficult for them to obtain visas to travel anywhere with you, etc. I just never wanted to deal with those issues. |

There was some sort of TV Magazine 'expose' about the male prostitutes in the coastal tourist areas who are just raking it in from tourist women.
Though I can't figure out why one would actually go to the trouble of paying for it in those places. Around there all you have to do to find love is simply be there. But judging from the music on the TV program this was all very shocking.
Then there's that dreadful English Girlfriends of Turkish Men chat group on MSN, mostly women who took up with these beach boys and actually took it seriously, and are surprised they were just being used for sex or gifts or that, despite all the sweet nothings, they were not the *only* one... One might gather from things like this that Turkish men have such a reputation abroad.
Then I heard about some scandal involving a 50s-ish British woman who abandoned her 15 year old daughter in England for her 20-something Turkish lover.
Part of 'macho' culture, at least in my experience (this includes Mexico and Italy), is that they like to be great romancers, coming on strong with the flowers and the I love you's and the you're the only one for me's, but when it comes to a real relationship they're more or less the same as men anywhere else-- some are great, some are bad, some are in-between. But I find Turks have a more ingenuous 'in love with love' quality about them, and they're completely unabashed about saying and doing things as a normal part of courtship that the more reserved British or American men would find much too embarassing. And I guess some women who aren't used to being told they're pretty might fall for this.
On the whole, I do find Turkish men really good-looking. And even the ones who aren't all that handsome give a nice impression with a careful dress sense (except some of the shoes!) impeccable posture, and grooming habits that are considerably more meticulous than their American counterparts.
All said and done, yes, my husband is as handsome as could be, but that's not why I married him, and I wouldn't be foolish enough to generalize his wonderful positive characteristics to the rest of the population (though there's sometimes a recurrent motif to some of the annoying things ). |
