So, I have a bachelors degree and a TESOL certificate. I'm a 19 year old aussie female. I would love to teach in japan and i don't think i would have any hassles finding a teaching job. I have heard however that young foreign girls can get a lot of work in japan ( hostessing etc).

The whole hostessing thing seems a little bit shady, i have had friends who have done it and although the money is great, they've got some pretty scary stories! So what about extra work? Or modeling even? Any chance of getting a job with a casting agency? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Smile

That's amazing. Only a few months ago you only had a diploma.

At 19 years old and no BA (heck even with a BA at 19) you would indeed have difficulty getting a working visa. If somehow you managed to get a visa it is still illegal to do jobs outside your visa range.

The working holiday visa excludes entertainment work I believe.

If you want to hostess then get an entertainment visa. They are valid for 90 days. I recommend you ask your friends how to go about that.

When i plan to leave i will have a bachelors degree, and i'm 20 on the 9/10. NOT that i should have to justify myself, i'm just trying to get some advice here guys. Glad that everyone here is focused on the real issues of helping out fellow travellers. If i failed to acurately explain my situation then all you had to do was ask. There is no need to interogate or belittle me. Post relavent repies or don't bother at all.

Hostessing is one way to go. I have met girls who enjoyed their jobs... but to me it seems like a pretty undesirable job.

Something you may not be aware of is the ever growing English "kindergarten" sector. There are more and more nursries, preschools, kindergartens, and baby classes. While I have no idea how much you like kids or enjoy blowing noses, this is one sector where being a young woman is an advantage. For one, most Japanese moms don't feel comfortable leaving little Haruka with a big scary gajin man. Then consider the fact that there are still far fewer native speaker females then males. Growing industry... lots of jobs. Some are more shady than others, but the pay tends to be above average. Some nursries are quite cushy as far as pay and work schedule go.

As far as modeling... well there seem to be a swarm of thin, young, blond teens prancing about Shibuya already. But you can still find some gigs on the side to supliment your income. Don't count on it to pay the bills though. Be careful which jobs you accept- some demand much more time than the pay warrants.
