|
|
Hi all,
I'm taking the CELTA November 16th - Dec. 21st. in Krakow. I have read a lot about the visa problems facing Americans. I now have a rough idea of the process. One thing I can't seem to find are specifics about dates and times.
I know that I will need to find a school that will sponsor me while in Poland. Then, I will need to go home to the U.S. to process the work visa. Then I will return to work at that school.
Now -- what are standard starting times for the 2006 school year? Are there language schools going year-round, with different contracts starting at all different times, as in Asia?
How long will it take for the visa to be processed? Is there enough time between the end of the course and the start of the school year (that is, if there is a formal 'start date') for this process? How long would you estimate that I will need to stay in Poland following the end of the course to secure a job with an interested school? (with Christmas and New Year's coming right after the course.. yikes...) I plan on applying to jobs while still taking the course, telling schools that I am currently earning the required CELTA degree.
If it matters -- I am a 25 year old white male with a master's degree (unrelated field) and a year's experience in Asia. I know that jobs are super picky about race and age in Asia, so I don't know if that's important (it shouldn't be, but that's a matter for another discussion...)
I'm trying to budget and plan flight times appropriately. If I'm going to have to crash at home in the U.S. after taking the course because the jobs just aren't out there, I'd like to know about it now!
Thanks to everyone in advance. I appreciate it. |

In Poland most of the schools start in October and end their classes in June, just like a school year.
In Poland most of the stundents are also going to school or univeristy.
Unfortunately looking for work in December will be tough as they will have the Winter break for 2 weeks and then Fierra which is another 2 week break in January.
As far as coming back for the visa, the problem is most school probably won't want to sponsor you to just work half a school year as it is expensive for the school.
You may find work however, but you'll probably work under the table.
As far as age and race. It's not important in Poland. But I should add that it helps to be from the U.K. or Ireland as the schools don't have to hassle with visas and most of the books are from the U.K. so some schools prefer teachers from the U.K. |

US Passport holders don't need a visa for stays under 90 days if they are not engaged in 'commercial activity'.
As far as working, good luck, esp. if you want to be in a popular spot. |
