|

Hello Fellow ESLer;
I plan to leave Shanghai after 1.5 years and go to Shenzhen in Dec or Jan. Does anyone out there know some decent apartment-hotels? Hostel? Any good SZ expat websites? And most importantly, JOB leads? I have a lot of experience and want to start a business later, however to start I will hustle up several part time gigs. I am also willing to go to HK to work some days.
I hear the chains are moving in; ie Web and Wall St English. Any comment on that? |

You don't sound as though you were cut out to find a job in HK, man! They have no "gigs" over there, I assure you! Moonlighting is riskier in HK than it is in Shanghai!
There is an apartment-hotel right next to the Shangri-La Hotel (forgot the name) opposite the train station, but its rates might very easily explode your dreams of raking in money as a "freelancer"! |

Geez Louise, Roger lighten up a little! I've seen you dispense some decent info over the years but lately negativity seems the order of the day. Why are you so down on freelancers? This is commonly done the world wide including in developed countries. It rarely results in the dire consequences you conjure up. Maybe you've been here too long. I sincerely hope you can get a little more positive. |

Abiamo quello problemo, signor?
Why should I "lighten up" even more?
It is people like you that sow "negativity", not people of my kind. I hope your "employers" down south take an equally cavalier outlook on you as you do on this country's regulations, and treat you accordingly.
Then you can come back to Dave's screaming "murder!" and "they have short-changed me too!"
I hope they do.
Meanwhile, I have given you all the available information relative to your question. |

I was in Shenzhen at the beginning of the year. It's the fashion to build huge night clubs and charge 60rmb for a beer that down the road at the 7-11 would cost 14rmb. |
