Ok I tried searching but couldn't find much...
Other than the YMCA, what are my gym options in Kobe? I neither speak or read Japanese and I'm having a hell of a time trying to burn off some steam.. I've found the climbing gyms but want some cardio workout. I'd love access or any or all of the following:
1. A track that is not cement or asphalt (bad knees)
2. Cardio machines... i hate them but i'll run in place if i have to...
3. Soccer anyone? (or football to everyone else but US folk) I'm a girl and I'm mediocre, but are there local leagues here or pick up games?
4. A decent aerobics class....
If anyone has any hints or leads to any of the above activities... My out of shape body would be deeply indebted...
incidently if anyone knows of good salsa dancing places or flamenco classes, i figure its a long shot but i might as well add that in there....
thanks a ton in advance... |

If you're looking for salsa, Sam & Dave's in Umeda has salsa dancing classes on Tuesday nights from 7-8, 8-9. Afterwards, it's all the 'forbidden dancing' that you want. I think it's about a 1,000 yen per lesson.
I hope other people chime in with soccer/badminton/baseball teams that are looking for people. |

Omg...
Go... outside... jog around your neighborhood... track? eh?
You live in Kobe, right? Go... climb your most excellent mountains! You have Mt. Rokko and Rock Garden to climb and you can't find a place to get exercise?! Ehhhhh? |

Try Tipness fitness club, closest branch in Mt Rokko
http://www.tipness.co.jp/index.html
Kobe Regatta and Athletic Club in Sannomiya may field a soccer team and has a gym and a well-stocked bar.

Nah, sorry. I sometimes do the hokey-pokey. Oh, when I'm feeling really wild, I'll do some Lord of the Dance (Riverdancing?) by myself when no one's looking. |

| Most Tipness Centers are good gyms! But if you want cardio go out and jog or even better buy a bicycle! |

no better yet - buy a skateboard...
I just got (another) one recently for just under 10,000. Totally hideous, but I sprayed a stencil on the bottom and yipee! |

I baught a good used mountain bike once from a bicycle shop. No one could believe how little I paid! It was dirt cheap.
All I can suggest is always keep an eye out for bicycle shops. And always ask the clerk if they have second hand bicycles. Sometimes they keep the used bikes in the back out of sight!
Good luck! |

Hey 6810,
Kick some asphalt! I love boarding, just bought one over the Internet. Came to just under 7000 yen. It is the new version of one I was given for Cristmas a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the last time it was run over was by a big truck and crushed one of the trucks, hence the newbie.
I am assuming you bought one of the shorties with the small wheels, the ones the kids are into for doing tricks? I am into long-boarding myself, love it but it's flat where I live now and the only time I use it is to get over to my parking space and back, and sometimes around the tennis courts.
Let me ask you this, have you experienced any anti-skateboarding flack from police or people in general?
Took mine to Europe with me this summer and enjoyed the bikeways of Amsterdam, allthough I felt like cyclers were down on me about it for that, can't see why.
Skateboarding's not a crime, enjoy.
