I don't know why people are always slagging off airline food, I've always thought it was pretty good.

Nothing beats international travel over the Pacific with United Airlines. They keep stuffing your face and alcoholic drinks are FREE. When I was flying back to China from Chicago this dude kept ordering beers and stashing them for later, God knows what he ended up doing with them.

Personally I think the biggest problem is not with the food, but with the selection of on - air movies, which always suck. Try having to sit through Sahara on both your flight over and the return ... you will pray for a quick fiery death.

Do any of you Middle Easterners ever fly 1st class? I hear that's where the eating really gets good.

^ on a few flights I had economy class and when I checked in I asked if there were any spare seats in 1st class. Quite often there were and I was upgraded without any additional charge. No harm in asking.

Worst?Can't say any specifically but the one time I travelled with swissair, the food was pretty bad

Singapore Airlines' food is really really good and regularly wins best airline food awards. Lan Chile is pretty good as well.

British Airways is truly awful but not as bad as TAM in Brazil.

I go with whichever airline goes where I need to go, isn`t ridiculously expensive, and doesn`t have a record of planes dropping from the sky, snapping in half, etc. They`re really all the same to me. I have found, though, that in most cases the food was decent just because I always have to order the strict vegetarian/vegan options, which are usually povided by outside caterers. I`ve had non-veggie friends tell me that they always order the veggie options also, because they`re better and higher quality.

I was a bit disappointed with a recent LanChile flight, though. They kept forgetting that I had requested something special, and when I finally got it, it turned out to be a plain ol�sandwich. (Typical in Chile! Love the country, am disappointed in the cuisine!)

I don't think its just the quality of food that concerns flyers as i think it would be relative to each person's individual tastes. It is also the frequency at which food is served.

Example:
i don't know if they still do it on long-haul flights but british airways used to have a 'smorgasbord' affair/setup in the back gallery in addition to set meals, so if anyone felt particularly peckish during the night or early morning, you just went down there and helped yourself. They had danish buns, swiss rolls, sandwiches .. the works. It was good cos you never really had to go hungry .. as is the case with many airlines doing long-haul journeys. On such airlines, if you asked for a bag of peanuts, not only wud you spend 10 minutes to hail a member of the cabin crew, it also took an age to bring them to you and when they arrived, the response was like... "Here ! and dont bother me, I'm trying to sleep, too"

Beats syrian airlines flight from Damascus to Deir Ezzor though ---- A tiny macaroon and a glass of water. I mean, come on !

Best Veggie food I've found, Air India. Also really friendly, helpful crew.


For most options, it's KLM.

I recently had a highly edible meal on CSA, goulash no less! I didn't indulge, but the booze was free and free flowing.

But, my oh my, the flight attendant was a cranky pants.
I gazed fondly at the other aisle with the smiling steward chatting with the passengers on the left side of the plane. Mine needed serious career counseling.

I've heard from others that the best meals to be had come from ordering a special kosher meal. Obviously, that won't be available (nor desireable) in all the corners of the world.

In the last 3 years I've only travelled with Air China (worst food), Japan Airlines (best service), and Korean Air (best food).
