hello, I'm looking for information on short-term jobs (ESL and otherwise). Seems everyone wants a 6mo+ contract. Are there any jobs out there for less than 3mos? |

Check out Mexico. there might be some jobs there. Also, summer positions might be opening up all over the world. Asia, South America, and europe, but I don't think that they pay is the best. Now's the best time for short term work as it's summer. |

There's a company in Japan, called Westgate academy, that offers 3 month contracts. But before you sign on the dotted line, pop over to the Japan forum and read up on it, it isn't about to win the Nobel Peace prize or anything. |

lclaroche,
Please note that it is not presently summer all over the world as some northern hemispherists would have you believe. However because it is entering summer in the northern hemisphere, you may find that it will be difficult to secure a six month contract. Think about down under where it is winter and second semester will start in a few weeks' time. |

China have a lot of summer sessions of 4-6 weeks. Pay would vary but 1000US or a little more you could expect. You would only break even I guess but if you just want a little working holiday...You wont get rich in 3 months antwhere... |

In the part of Mexico where I live, summer EFL teaching jobs are hard to find. Most people who can afford English classes for themselves or for their kids spend summers on holiday, often at their beach houses.
There really isn't summer school per se. Schools end their spring terms sometime between the middle of June and the middle of July and begin fall terms the middle of August or early September. At the university where I teach, we have only 3 weeks off for summer break.
Also, the cost of a work visa would hardly be worth it to work only 3 months. You'd be lucky to recuperate the cost of the work visa in such a short amount of time. |

thanks to all who've replied so far. I thought I'd clarify some parts:
-Though summer is nearing where I am, I'm not necessarily looking for summer jobs. I'm looking for info ANY short-term position at ANY part of the year, Northern or Southern hemisphere. Actually, come winter's a nicer time to get away to someplace warmer.
-I'm not necessarily looking for ESL jobs, and would actually prefer to do more humanitarian things (I have rich and varied experience). Yes, this is the ESL discussion board, but I'm open to anything.
-Finally, I'm a substitute teacher in Seattle, which recently ranked #97 in terms of teacher's pay out of the largest 100 cities in the US. Money isn't really the main factor, and I can get by on very, very little.
Thanks again and keep the info flowing! |
