I thought Kindergarten work was illegal here now?? Should my friend worry when the recruiter says that they will bus him to a cram school if the police raid the kindergarten?? |

It is not illegal for these positions to be advertised as there are some foreigners who would legally qualify for this type of work i.e. foreigners who have become Taiwan nationals and maybe even those on open work permits through marriage (I say maybe for this one as there seems to be some confusion here).
If your friend is getting a work permit and ARC through his or her school then he or she would be well advised to avoid any work within kindergartens. |

I asked my last boss if I had to run away if the police came. She told me that there wasn't any need. Then after a pause, 'you can just walk'. |

I love how when you get a call for an interview they tell you that the job they have available is great hours, conditions and pay - you spend a morning trying to locate there bizarrely located office only to be told that 'the job is gone' but we have another one with lower pay, less hours and ordinary conditions... |

Sounds all too common. Make sure that you don't sign anything with the actual recruiter. |

When did kindergarten work become against the law in Taiwan? I was offered a position with Jump Start. Even on this forum a few people post positive comments about them. On davesesl many jobs advertise to teach kindergarten in Taiwan. |

To my knowledge foreign teachers have never been permitted to teach in kindergartens. It all comes down to the legislation. The standard buxibans that most people work at are ruled by different legislation than kindergartens, preschools and nursery schools.
There was a short period of time a year or so ago when the government momentarily saw the light and actually decided to permit what was blatantly occurring and actually start to administer the employment of foreign teachers in kindergartens. Pressure from kindergartens that either were not able to or didn't want to employ foreigners saw this decision quickly reversed through the enlistment of some prominent scholars who claimed that learning a second language at an early age may be damaging to a childs first language abilities.
I would never work at a kindy. It is tempting to fill your morning hours with paid work and many people do, but I prefer to keep my nose clean and instead choose to fill those hours doing other things. If however you are going to teach at a kindy you will likely find greater protection at a chain school such as Jumpstart. |

Thanks clark.w.griswald! I am so surprise because most job advertisements in Taiwan are for teaching at a kindergarten! Maybe I will just stay in Japan. |

Boy oh boy, this sure seems to be a common perception I'm reading here recently.....Could it actually be TRUE! Could it? Could it be I ask you?

Of course I knew I would be breaking the law. Many people here are to some degree either willingly or not. I don't have any problem with working in a kindergarten illegally just as long as I know that it is illegal to do so. It was the laoban who tried to underplay the situation. |

Underplay? She probably presumed you knew the situation. "Just as long as I know".....what's that all about? No matter what she said or didn't--- you a knew. You're definitely talking out of both sides of your mouth here. Are you turning Taiwanese? Is this a face thing? |
