Happy Saturday to all!!
My Wife and I are going to be moving to DF when our house sells and I was wondering what the best way is to get around. This won't be a big problem for me because my wife can drive me places, but I was wondering just in case I need a backup plan for some reason. Like, if the car were to break down and it takes a while to fix it. I've heard the subway is good and some of the Taxis, just not the little green ones because they're dangerous and could lead to an express kidnapping.
Any suggesations? Guy, you've been very helpful which is why I don't want to bother you directly all of the time.
Thanks,
John |

The metro is crowded, but not that bad. I'm sure your wife will NOT want to drive you around, since it takes forever to get anywhere. Sitio taxis are the ones you call to come pick you up, and are considered safer than the green city ones, but of course they are more expensive. There are also buses, combis, colectivos, and peceros which are all small buses or vans, and those work, too. If you speak Spanish, it's not that hard to move around by public transportation. If you don't, it will be more difficult.
As for just touring around, I love the $100 peso double decker "turibus" (tourist bus). I like to take it on Sundays just for fun. You can get off at any of several convenient spots for lunch, the museum, whatever, and then just get back on. They seem to go by about every half hour and your $100 lasts all day. |

Love that turibus, though I've never taken it. Here's a blurry picture I took.
There's lots and lots of public transport. Easy to get anywhere once you figure it out. In fact, a car is often the slowest to move about this city. there is a brand new Metrobus system that runs the length of Insurgentes.
The danger in the green VW bugs is overrated. Odds are you'll never get anything worse than a driver who doesn't know the city very well. |

I've advised that kid in the red t-shirt about waving to strange men with cameras hanging out of trees, and he has promised not to wave to you in future. |

No worries mate. That pic is from a sniper lens. He ain't waving any more.
Note to those who lack a funnybone. I do not condone the climbing of a bell tower with a rifle unless you have done at least 5 years in the US Postal service. |

. . . which explains the one obviously empty seat in the photo, right? What was the sniper's motive? Probably something along the lines of I'll never be able to find a decent job placement for this one. Future trainees, beware. Don't accept a free ride on a turibus from your trainer. It is not part of the normal training program.
