So, as the party starts at 1 am on Saturday October 15, would this be friday night (Oct. 14-15) or saturday night (Oct 15-16)? Just wanted to be sure. Also, does the 5 pesos include food or is that at additional cost? It sounds a great party!

The 5 pesos is just an entrance fee, food and drinks fees are really low though and the profits go to a good cause.

The people we are helping out is local English speakers in Buenos Aires, Argentina found at http://Googlenglish.com and the rugby folks hosting the event.

Hi michael
could you tell me more about who and what you are raising money for. I looked in the Googlenglish site? But I couldn't work out who the free classes are aimed at? You say you are helping the local English speakers in Buenos Aires? What help do they need exactly? I would have thought theat they would have been the last people to need help from the benifit asado? Who are the peole doing the Rugby tour to south Afica? It it some local high school teams or local youth groups?
thanks in advance for the info
Sheena

I, as former rugbier, played many times there and can guarantee you something... If you don't have your own car, you will have a REALLY hard time to get back to your place late at night (or early morning)... there are no taxis around there...

Hi Sheena,

Thanks for all the silly questions. I think all your questions can be answered at http://teachingargentina.com Say, you should come so can work on your English skills at the asado, I see you have a bit of a spelling issue, that's OK, that is why we teach English for free at , to help the likes of ye... A bunch of locals will be there and us rugby players too; we can talk about classes and what we do. Bring your friend guillebaires, we can toss him in the air a little like us rugby boys like to do!

ps You might want to think about calling a remis (a taxi) after the event, we have staff and people to help you with that at the event though.

Hey now,

Play nice! This is going to be fun time with a lot of friendly people for a good cause. Keep it positive people, it's only an event, you don't have to attend if you are going to bring negativity.

Thanks for the interest.

Mikey

googlenglish is sponsored by a telflocal, a telf course apparently designed specifically for argentina. I can't comment on what the course is like but i'd certainly be wary of a group running a tefl course that writes things like,

So don't make haste and join today, we are excited to meet you.

Yes, i'll be as slow as i can but still sign up today. Maybe at 4.59pm.

and

Finding housing yourself will save you a little more money, but having us find the housing for you might find you a little piece of mind

Finding a 'piece' of mind might be tricky. Perhaps after a football match. Or any other riot.

First off, you must have at least 18 years of age to enter the TEFLocal TEFL certified program. Although after that initial screening process their is no age requirement, if you are under 21, you might have to submit to an interview via over the phone or in person to asses eligibility for enrollment, we only accept serious students that want to learn about either teaching, Buenos Aires, or both.

I don't think i have anything to say about that one. Except the the course accepts 18 year olds with no degree.

Also, as Sheena asked, who exactly is this 'benefit' benefitting? And i don't think that insulting other member of the forum is going to help your cause. Or make anyone want to travel to mendoza with you.

Wow and you critisized my English! You would have tought that a native speaker would have proof read the advertising material. It doesn't look too good when an institute designed to teach people to teach non native speakers use English such as 'You must have at least 18 years of age'??? And 'piece (not peace) of mind'.
And I seem to remember that when I did my CELTA everyone was rigourously tested and interviewed whether they had a degree or not, not just the under 21's!!!!
Well I don't need to go on I guess matthebhoy has said it all
Maybe you should use this advertising to test your potential students on the TEFL course see if the can spot (all) the mistakes....

Hi, thanks for the interest into the event for those of you who are positive people and keep it positive.

I'm not sure what some of you are talking about with all your seething jackal negativity, but there is an event for a good cause on Saturday that a lot of teachers are going to and I thought some people would like to go. I just found out about it and was really excited to be in Buenos Aires and doing something good.

Also, I think that slamming some course with unfounded accusations is a strange way to spend your time. I see by many of your posts that some of you work at a competitor of TEFLocal, and bring it up ALOT, I think that sort of behavior just taints forums, which should be open and helpful.

As far a what I've read about Googlenglish, it looks great- I don't think it is for native speakers, I think the point of the event is raising awareness to bridge communities, something TEFLocal is all about.

So, lets "play nice" and keep it positive, there are more errors and bizarre mistakes on the competitor;s site you work for too, the ebccourse has weird writing all over the top of the first page, but so what!! It does mean that if you find a mistake you exploit it, why is that positive? Many sites, bbc, cnn, etc. have a "email webmaster" link if you find mistakes. I couldnt' find any of the errors you cited in the TEFLocal site, but I emailed them and told them of spelling discrepancies, I doubt that their web designer is a native English speaker anyway, TEFLocal consists of Argentineans.

So please, if you don't have anything nice don't say anything at all. When my course starts I seriously doubt I'll be hanging out on a chat board, but as for right now, I have a lot a free time and am looking to travel. I thought that I might find some friends here and some help, but it looks as if people on this board are just here to gang up on the new guy.

If you are interested in Rugby or teaching English please see my original post. Thanks.

Wow....guys, looks like I can't leave you alone for a couple of days!!!

Sheena, Matt, Guille!!! relax people!!

I'll try to be as short as I can.

Michael, we are in a democratic system, therefore you'll have people for and against. Now, people being against are not negative people, or at least you shouldn't label them like that. You must bare having people against you, that's life, and if you're not capable to accept it...I feel sorry for you.

Then we have the title of your post, very similar to my BBQ post, there I can see that you're "mala leche" and you're trying to confuse people, no to mention that you don't referr to food at all in your post, you put asado in the title, but it looks like not food will be available.

Hope you can come up with the money that you need for your trip to south africa.

Regards

Gauchito
