Greetings everyone,

I am thinking of getting my TEFL certification in Costa Rica and eventually teaching there, and I wanted to know what should be done about health insurance. Should I try to find an American insurance company that offers travel insurance or is it common to find employers that offer it? What am I to do if I want to be covered?

Some employers do, some don't. If you're arranging a job before you go, ask them. If you're planning to go and look around, it's more likely they'll see you as a casual hire, and not offer benefits.

If you're concerned about being covered, I'd look into a good travel insurance policy for the first few months. Get one that can be extended while you're overseas, in case you decide to work for an outfit that doesn't offer insurance.

Good luck,
Justin

This is a web page that combines information about CR health, from the drinking water to dental care to a full-care facility.

"Most foreigners and retirees opt for the medical insurance offered by the governments insurance companythe National Insurance Institute or INS"
Their policies may have changed, you should ask about it on the Costa Rica forum.

Costa Rica has a reputation for very good, relatively inexpensive health care.
