I will be coming to guangzhou or shenzhen the first week of november. should i line up employment or find it when i get there? Thank you roger and robbie for previous posts regarding accomodation. is ther work in the area? |

With visa regulations tightening.. Your best bet is to line up employment before you go. Its the middle of the semester, so you have to question any school that is still looking for foreign teachers at this time and scrutinize the offers more closely.
If you go on a F or L visa as tourist and find employmnt you risk not being able to convert your visa, or at the very least, requiring a trip to Hong Kong if and after your documents have been processed.. Local visa conversions can still happen though they are becoming more rare..

Maybe the market is reaching what we might call a "FT saturation point"... There simply isn't that much of a demand any more, occasional streaks of good luck by a few notwithstanding. It is therefore best to contact prospective employers beforehand. And don't come without some cash to tide you over lean periods!
Try EF (in spite of the industriously applied bad publicity that some have given it - there are some EF operators that do their job decently!). |
