Okay . . . I couldn't resist this one. As most of us are *ahem!* (native) English teachers, I thought we could *ahem!* help each other out:

Good vs Well:

Good is an adjective and should be used to describe a noun: "You are a good (basketball) player."

Well is an adverb and should be used to describe a verb: "You play (basketball) well."

(by the way, "well" is also a noun: "Oh no, Timmy fell down the well! Lassie, go get help!")

Anyone else care to add to this list?

alot, as opposed to a lot and allot.
The errors I see on these pages remind me of my Year 9 Australian students, though the majority would not make these errors.

Methinks Mideatoo misread the title of this thread. I've yet to meet a native speaker who confuses genders.

simply pathetic.............

I am referring here to feminine -vs- masculine. Too many locals use masculine, and masculine only.
Thank you for the little entertainment...

Actually, I WAS referring to NATIVE English speakers - - sorry I didn't clarify that well enough. We have another thread about "Common errors made by Chinese people/students" so I thought I'd role-reverse that. If you go back and reread my original post, I was (sort of) saying that we English teachers probably could brush up on mistakes that we (native) English speakers make. I'll see what I can do about retitling this thread.

It was perfectly clear to me Kev and nearly all other posters; probably even those from Colombia. But obviously you can't take some things for granted.
