After this year where I hope to be privatly teaching in the UK I hope to be returning to Canada specifically Toronto.
I am asking for advice on anyone wishing to teach in Toronto. How easy is it to find work? A little about me though-I am 21 TESOL qualified and have taught short stints in China Spain and Poland as well as (hopefully soon) teaching privatly in the UK. Will I be able to get work or is there more chance in private teaching?
Thanks
the soon to be repatben

If you want to teach in Toronto (and already have an undergraduate degree), get at least one of the following:

1. A Bachelor of Education degree (one year at a univeristy) (unless you are doing a PGCE in the UK- it's the same thing as a B.ed in Ontario, but you would still need to get certified by the Ontario College of Teachers)
2. A TESL Certiicate (one year at a university)
3. awesome skills and experience in an area that publically funded colleges both teach and require teachers of.

i was offered a full-time job in toronto, with a celta and 5 yrs experience, plus the fact that i was working on my MA-TESL by distance.

however, most schools were lowering staff levels at the time--sars. you may find that you'll need to work for several places, and can expect rates anywhere from $12-30/hr.

i preferred montreal, as there is a yr round market, while toronto slows down in winter. h owever, again you need to hustle. i had four employers, plus an office temp job. i could have had more work, but i was lazy.
