I'm looking to gain a good solid teaching qualification to go with the expereince that I already have. I want to stay in Hong Kong and then possibly go abroad to teach in other countries. I have seen on the net about online courses and courses which can be taken in say, thailand. then there are intensive courses that are held at places like British Council.
However, I really can't afford to be paying 25k for a course, nor can I take a month off work to go and study this, can anyone offer any suggestions or insight, whats the pro's and con's with these options? any advice would be very much appreciation, so thanks in advance.

2 things to consider here
1 are you serious or just want the loot for money stay in Asia and use your degree for the work permit no qual required really
no degree do it anyway (Taiwan is great for this!!!!) Save your loot and go home to start a hotel/restaurant/IT bussiness etc.
2 serious contenders for this wonderful vocation!!!! either do the CELTA course (dont bother with any others ) which will get you low to mid level jobs somewhere its hard and not mickey mouse and most importantly has the "NAME". I have been passed over for people with this!!! ( I have an MA)
2a go to uni and do a higher level Dip MA qual in linguistics etc. this is long term and gets you to the uni positions plus Middle East decent jobs

what would I do anything else but this!!!!! As you get older (30 +) its tough in Asia so if you dont like the M/East ............ NZ collapsed about 3 years ago so no work here

short answer is if you want to invest 10 years in this go for the CELTA its only 1 month and costs the "same" per country as its charged from UK It is however hard work!!

hope this helps Nik NZ

NIck, both the Trinity and SIT are just as recognised.

English for Asia have the Trinity Cert. (TESOL)
I think Chinese U. offers SIT.

The Australian International School also has a Cert. TESOL.

And there are other form different universities. HKU SPACE (Dip. TESOL) Note no teaching practise on that course.
