I WAS JUST OFFERED A JOB TEACHING IN ISTANBUL. CAN ANYONE OFFER SOME ADVICE ON GETTING CHEAP (I USE THE WORD LIGHTLY BECAUSE I HEARD REAL ESTATE IS QUITE EXPENSIVE) AND CHEERFUL ACCOMMODATION FOR A SINGLE MAN?
COULD YOU ALSO GIVE ME SOME BALL PARK FIGURES FOR RENT? |

The cost of rent depends on the part of the city you live in. In the Taksim area rents are from about 700-1000+TL/mo. There are some cheaper options if you don't mind living in a dump. There are also some places that post ads for roommates. You might also check out craig's list on the web, expatriate.com, sabinden.com |

Really? I am sure he didn`t know that. Does that mean that the ex pat enclave of Beyoglu and Cihangir is more expensive than gercek Turkiye such as Esenyurt?

thanks for the help folks, i also found some good info on the competition's website, tefl.cam, it has started giving cost of living information, provided by teachers on the ground. |

Yeah and I don`t give a toss
I also have work permit/monthly salary/social security/sick pay/holiday pay issues but our rep doesn`t give a toss either. |
