How much money can people save in Taiwan if they don't drink a lot or go to clubs a lot?
I'm in SE Asia and will need to replinish the savings by the summer when I return to Korea for a summer camp.
I worked about 15 months in Korea and saved about 9,000 USD. I really worked a lot (privates) and Seoul was OK (for me) at best. The "fear of the foreigner" and the cold really bothered me. Also, my boss was a real jerk if you didn't get roaring drunk once a week with him. However, I will need some cash by summer, and I'm leaning toward Korea. If I could make the same or almost the same in Taiwan I'd be really, really happy to try it.
BTW - I have several years of experience in several countires, + TEFL |

Dude, there are always more variables going to a strange land. Short term is about get in get out. You have answered your own question. You are comfortable with Seoul, stands to reason, you are going to save more there. You know how to work a boss. Promise him the moon, get what you can. Additionally, if you are willing to risk doing privates, you know that's where the money is. You have a network already established.
No brainer if you ask me. |

Yeah bro, you're right. It is a no brainer.
I just hate the cold. I can't begin to tell you how much I don't like it. I guess your right though. The person that has the summer camp lined up for me has said it will be possible to arrange interviews while I'm there, so it looks like that's where I'm leaning.
Thanks for the reality check.
BTW - If money isn't an issue, SE Asia is pretty great if you like the heat like I do. People are pretty friendly here (both locals and expats) and the food its good. I have a good gig here (one of the few), but I'll still be lucky to walk away with 3000 USD after my last paycheck for my year contract. |
