I'm planning to move to Italy in July 2006 and look for work teaching English. I've been informed by an Italian friend of mine that Perugia would be a good place to go. I found a long list of English language schools in Perugia, but was wondering if anyone had any personal experience working there and could make some recommendations?
Also, any advice on finding accomodation there would be great!

It would help if you listed your qualifications. Do you have a college degree, a TEFL certificate, a European Union passport?

I work in Perugia. If you have all three of the qualifications above, you could try the school where I work - Accademia Britannica, Viale Indipendenza, 21 (in the historic center). I think we are already set for staff for this year, but sometimes people are hired in the fall so it wouldn't hurt to try.

I've also heard the British Institutes is a decent school. One school I'd avoid is Oxford - have heard a lot of bad things about it (second hand, but from quite a few different people - both British and Italian).

Most schools will want to interview you in person, so it's hard to set anything up from abroad.

If you don't have a passport from a European Union country, it will be more difficult to find work here. Maybe you could try Wall Street Institute -which just opened in Perugia last year.

I have CELTA, a University degree and an EU passport.

I am curious what rent is like these days in Perugia, also. When I lived there 5 years ago I paid about 150,000 lira a month for a room in a 3 bedroom apartment on Via Del Lupo. Besides a few local prostitutes in the neighborhood, it was an awesome place to live. Can anyone say what the average is for a decent place in Perugia these days?

greg, people are probably already forgetting the conversion factor...so what was that in dollars, around $75 right? wasn't it arouind 2000 lira per dollar?
