Lumix,
Did they mention in any way that academic qualifications (diploma) are subject to the same chain of authentication? Earlier threads say no -- that only a copy is necessary, or that having even a local notarization is more than acceptable. Then I saw another thread mentioning needing to have diplomas authenticated up through the chain. Did your school or the consulate mention anything about mandatory authentication for academic qualifications or this just for the criminal background check?
I ask because getting multiple documents through the process is really expensive -- $70 a pop through the Vietnamese consulate.
Thank you for posting this current info. I've tried to get through to the consulate -- even attempting several different extensions -- with no luck. |

I am finding this background check info pretty confusing, and since I am in the US and possibly going to VN to look for a position, I'd like it cleared up. The last post says you don't need an FBI background check.
Can someone explain clearly what is needed, and apply specific url links? |

You don't need an FBI check, but it will do. An FBI check costs $18 USD, and you go to the Sherrif's office in your hometown, have your fingerprints taken, and you mail it to Quantico, VA, and wait about 5-6 weeks for the report to be mailed to you.
Or.....
You can get a local or state check.
But clarify if only a local (city, county) check will still suffice. |

For Ohio, I found this:
http://www.ocjs.ohio.gov/backgroundchecks.htm
which states "the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services does not offer background checks or criminal record searches." The directions there say to just go to the Sheriff's office... This I suppose is what you say will still suffice. |

All well and good, but any idea about Canadian, or British criminal reference checks?
As we don't have 'secretary of state' offices, FBI or the like. Anyone from Canada know how to properly process theirs? |

What's the current situation?
What do people need in order to work in Vietnam? Is the work permit still unnecessary?
How long can different nationalities stay in VN if they enter without a visa? |
