Is it necessary to get the originals of your degree, certificates, etc apostilled by your embassy before you leave? Will they not do this to copies and then stamp them (or whatever they do). I'd hate to be travelling around with the original documents. |

The process differs from country to country and state to state, so contact the local Mexican Embassy or Consulate and ask them. They should be able to answer your question for your particular case. |

I agree with the above post. However, one of the frustrating things about Mexico is when you don't get a clear answer as to what exactly you need to do. And sometimes people will just tell you to do everything assuming this way you have your bases covered.
I was able to just show my school "notarized" copies of my degrees which were apostilled. The school made copies of my apostilled, notarized copies and that was good. I was able to hold on to my documents. I think the important thing is to have your copies notarized AND apostilled. But again check with somebody. The best thing is to call the school you will work at and ask them what they did in the past. Or if you don't know what school you will be at, contact some schools in the area and find out what is necessary.
Also contact some local notaries and ask them about apostilles and where to have them done for your state. |

In most places it's possible to get more than one "original" of those documents. It's possible to get duplicate originals of documents, which isn't the same thing as getting copies of those documents. I went to my alma mater and asked for duplicates of my diploma and transcripts. I also have a duplicate of my birth certificate on hand. These are all considered originals as opposed to copies (or photocopies) of originals. |

I had a friend get my docs legalized in Canada, since I was already in Mexico. The embassy there insisted on stamping my originals, so at some point I'll have to contact my university and get another "original." |
