Qingdao is very western style city. It's very nice there and has a beach and it holds a beer fest every year. Alot of places to eat and bars to go to. It can be expensive if you buy alot of western food western things. A pizza is about 30-50 yuan, doritos cost about 25 yuan, a beer in a bar cost about 30-35 yuan. Taxis start at 8 yuan. Here is a website to get more info about Qingdao. But you will love it there

I taught there between April 2003 and January 2004. What do you want to know? I believe most if not all employers in Qingdao will provide free accomodation.

thanks for your help.

I'm going to be teaching at International House in Qingdao.

There's an accommodation allowance included in the total wage.

I've heard good things regarding the school and Qingdao itself during my research so far.

cheers

marty

Well, unless I am completely wrong, then I am quite certain that International House is located in this highrise office building on Hong Kong Road (Xianggang Zhong Lu) where another big-name language school is located also. That area is Qingdao's famous tourism spot. To the south there is the beach and May 4 Square, and across the street from the office building is a Carrefour where you can take care of all your shopping needs. Bars are within walking distance (Jazz Bar and Club New York being two of the most famous) and you can take a bus to Badaguan or Taidong shopping district. However, apartments in Qingdao are NOT cheap -- especially in that area (City South or Shinan district)! Some can go as high as about 1,000 RMB a month (not including water, heat, electricity, gas, and telephone).

Qingdao's summers are extremely humid (clothes can take 3 days to dry) and winters can be a bit cold for you if you are from southern USA or you are an Australian/New Zealander. But to the Chinese, Qingdao is one of the most beautiful cities in China.

BTW, do you have CELTA? A long time ago when I applied to International House, I was told by some woman that all applicants must have CELTA (and they only recognize it and nothing else). I want to know if that's true or whether they were BS'ing me.
