|
|
Hello all,
I am trying to book a hostel for my first week in Argentina. I really need to book in advance because I am getting to town in the middle of the night and want to know where I'm going. I got in touch with a place called Milonga Hostel and they responded saying that if my stay will add up to more than Arg$100 then I should wire the money for my entire stay to them via Western Union. This seems very fishy to me because where I have travelled, you might make a 10% down-payment on a hostel reservation, but never 100%. Is this normal Buenos Aires practice? Or should I find a different hostel? |

Yes its fishy. Don't even consider this. If you can't pay with a credit card or pay when you get there, then don't stay. If you just google Buenos Aires Hostel then you should come up with some good ones that are better than this place. |

I had an argentine friend who said her friend stayed there while she was looking for a new apartment in the city. She said it was great and the girl stayed there for a month or two. Sounds a bit weird though. |

That does sound "Fishy". I have been reading these posts for some time. I'm coming to BA Nov. 12 and have reserved a room at "Chill-House". Seems like a good deal. I read about it on one of the posts.
Good Luck! Stevie-G |

I looked up Milonga Hostel on Hostels.com and it turns out that you can actually do a credit card booking through the website where you pay a 10% deposit. Weird ... Anyway, I wrote Milonga an e-mail. The reason I wanted to stay there is that it is really close to EBC where I will be taking classes and it looks pretty nice as well as inexpensive. Chill House sounds good too - you'll have to let us know how it goes!!
Good luck getting prepared for leaving. I am starting to get a little stressed out with the last minute stuff. |

You can also try www.hospitalityclub.org if you only need a couple days to get your bearings. |

I highly recommend Chill House - its just as their name suggests. The staff is really cool and definitely likes to party. Its a little more expensive than some other places, but its actually clean...so I didnt mind paying the few extra pesos. I probably sound like an advertisement now so Ill stop...but the point has been made. |

I have made a reservation for 11 Nov- 14 Nov for Chill House. They were very easy to work with, 26 pesos per night seems like a good deal to me!! No money or credit card information required. Ill let you guys know how it is. |

I have room by myself with shared bath. Is that alot of money? I have been to Argentina in 2002 and 2003 stayed for a month, but I stayed in Rosario and didn't have to pay for a room. |

On www.hostelworld.com you have to pay 10% down on a credit card and then yoo pay the rest when you get there. There are tons on this website.... and the whole wiring or money does sound a bit odd... but I know that's how they often do it for renting apts. in Brasil.... so, do whatever you think is right! |
