Have you read about this Tony Blair situation. He LIED about Iraq having WMD. And of course Bush did the same. In fact Bush even admitted it. It is a scandal in Great Britian but in the US who cares??? You called us peaceniks and pinkos and now the truth is coming out. Lets file this one under "I" shall we in the dictionary of terrorist acts. That would fall between Hondorus and Jakarta. Further proof I am not worried about Iraq I am worried about Bush and Blair. A war crimes tribunul should be in place but were more worried about Beckham aint we??? |

Gerard,
Where do you get your information? I follow the news pretty carefully and I haven't come across Bush "admitting he's lied." |

The American government hasn't admitted to lying. It's simply admitted that some of the more persuasive documents it used were crude forgeries and had been exposed as so before the President used them.
There's a difference. One must be accurate. |

Some of you people sound surprised. You mean it is out of the ordinary for politicians to lie? After all,a lot of them are lawyers, and we KNOW what THEY are!
Obviously, I do not know what really happened.I doubt if we will ever know the full, unvarnished truth.
Maybe some of Bush's and Blair's flunkies lied to THEM.I am not trying to excuse it....but...
What really bothers me(and should bother everybody) is that a lot of people(including a lot of innocent ones) were killed.No.I am not a pinko, peacenik,or anything like that. However,I think we all lose whenever people have to die. I wish they could find other solutions.
Let's face it, government is a very inexact science. Most people the world over are just decent people who hope the government(any government ) will just leave them alone.Supposedly governments exist for the purpose of facilitating things and making life better for people. How many actually do that? |

Here we were discussing a serious issue, and someone hauls BECKHAM into the discussion.Believe it or not, there are actually people in the world who could care less about him and his ex-Spice Wife girl friend, whatever her name is.But I betcha Beckham is not worried about how much it will cost to fill HIS car(s) with petrol!
BBC has about done the Beckham issue to death. Then there is that saccharine "Great Britons" thing. If they would profile someone INTERESTING, like Guy Fowkes or Jack the Ripper..... |

Dear gerard,
Am I mistaken in getting the impression that you seem to think everyone in Great Britain and the USA is either: 1. a blind ( and dumb ) follower of the current administrations there; and/or 2. indifferent to what may well be the truth? If I'm not mistaken, please let me assure you that there are many, many citizens of both countries who are outraged at what has gone/is going on. While the jury's still out on the WMDs, it certainly does seem that, at the very least, the " intelligence " was hyped and tweaked to justify a course of action that had already been decided upon long before. Where, I wonder, are all those guardians of presidential honesty morality and ethics that were so very vocal and indignant over Clinton's sexual misconduct? Well, those people are certainly quiet nowadays, but there are many others who are not.
Regards,
John |

Good Day Mates:
Not one to mince my words when it comes to politics, let me go on the record here. Despite my American roots, I would be absolutely delighted to see George W. Bush on trial at the War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague ... should these allegations of grave misconduct prove true.
Oooops! George and his Republican buddies haven't signed on to that treaty, have they?
OK then. Let's drag him there kicking and screaming. I'll bring the rope.
No tea and biscuits for W.
Yours truly,
kENt |

Actually Beckham was mentioned briefly at the top of the thread and I happen to find that a far more interesting topic than ESL/EFL workers getting on their high horses with their pub philosophizing on how to make the world a better place. What is it with foreigners working abroard? If you don't think you're James Bond, you think you're Jesus Christ.
Oh, and another thing, I bet you really know what David Beckham's wife's name is. |
Aw, be nice. Are you telling me this is the only place on the planet where people are complaining about Blair and Bush? Humans everywhere are telling each other how to make the world a better place. I myself am not a pinko, but I work for them and they go around on their high horses telling me how to make the world a better place every day. You just went around on an ethical equestrian yourself - saying that the world would be a better place if we stopped telling each other how to make the world a better place.
Human nature! Remember God's last post:

Binx, I like "Spice Wife Girl Friend." It has a cool ring to it.
PS God never said that. I do not claim to have any more of a relationship with The Person Upstairs than anyone else. No offence is intended, and if the Big Cheese himself is cheesed, I'll go to the Great Pit of Flames, and I won't need mortal flames added, I'm sure. But I felt like writing it. |

I worked in the public service for 28 years. I know politicians and voters. But I still don't know why people are surprised when politicians behave like politicians. |

Dear JDYoung,
Surprised? Nope - I stopped being surprised many years ago. But I'll never stop being outraged when politicians think they can treat me like a fool and get away with it.

I think what I miss most about being in Korea and Taiwan is the pub philosophizing. *sigh* |
